I can accept that he isn't happy being subbed but he should act like a Captain when he is taken off and not trying to show to the whole world that he is bigger than the club because he isn't.
We have played better without Stevie this season, that is one thing he should think about.
We can now cope being without him.
The captain and manager should work as a collective, Stevie should be Rafa's representative on the field.
He needs to understand this.
I've felt for some time now that Carra would be the better captain. But can you imagine the reaction if Rafa took it off Gerrard? Gerrard would kick up a fuss and the media would never stop talking about it!

Gerrard has rescued Rafa when his tactical failings have almost cost us in big games. Olympiakos, Istanbul, Cardiff were three notable occassions when, had it not been for our captain, we would have faltered. A captain should lead on the pitch but sometimes I get the feeling Rafa thinks he is the one leading on the pitch by his constant barking of instructions from the sidelines.

how many top flight coaches manage from the stands? because all the ones that don't, do it so they can "bark" instructions to the pitch.Originally posted by bigfooty View PostI get the feeling Rafa thinks he is the one leading on the pitch by his constant barking of instructions from the sidelines.
and don't try and say fat sam counts as a decent manager

At times he leads by inspiration like Olympiakos, Istanbul and West Ham but at times he isn't your pitbull aggressor like Roy Keane was. The closest thing we have is Carra, he kicks you up the jacksy whoever you areOriginally posted by anfieldanfield View PostGerrard is a **** captain.

I think Alonso is our best leader on the pitch.
He stays calm all the time and talk to Rafa a lot during the games. Carra can let his heart for the club take over sometimes.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Carra is heart and soul Liverpool. We need a passionate captain, someone who gives two ****s, someone who knows the history of the club, the history, the tradition, the prestige.
Alonso in my estimate lacks that. I would never want him to be captain

for the fans that's important but it shouldn't be for the team.
or it should in an ideal world of a certain type.Felching ≠ Gerbilling

I think that if you look at the great Captains then you will discover that more or less all of them is more the analyzing type than the passionate one.Originally posted by Ben Tover View PostWHAT?!

Name one tactically astute captain? The job for a captain is to motivate the side on the pitch, gear them up, become the leader, lead by example. Gerrard has done this many a time but I am trying to say passion on the pitch is a good thing for a captain and being a local lad it helpsOriginally posted by AFII View PostI think that if you look at the great Captains then you will discover that more or less all of them is more the analyzing type than the passionate one.
