Beckenbauer, Cruyff, Dunga, Cafu, Raul, Maldini and so on.Originally posted by Ben Tover View PostName one tactically astute captain? The job for a captain is to motivate the side on the pitch, gear them up, become the leader, lead by example. Gerrard has done this many a time but I am trying to say passion on the pitch is a good thing for a captain and being a local lad it helps
Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

That sums it up perfectlyOriginally posted by Ben Tover View PostAt times he leads by inspiration like Olympiakos, Istanbul and West Ham but at times he isn't your pitbull aggressor like Roy Keane was. The closest thing we have is Carra, he kicks you up the jacksy whoever you are
Most of the time he's a **** captain but every 20 games he turns in a miracolous and he suddenly becomes captain fantastic."Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Im not the thief who grabs your purse. Im not the guy who jacks your car. Im not down with the people who steal and hurt others. Im just a brother who fight back."

Personally I think Carra should be captain, can you imagine him wanting Rafa to explain publicly why he was substituted?
I love Stevie but I think he has a destabilising influence on the club, not just with all the previous transfer sagas.
He needs to remember that everything he does is going to be twisted and manipulated by the press and in that sense he is either still naive or using the press to discredit Rafa a bit.

He moans too much, great footballer but he's the captain of Liverpool its not all about him, its the team success thats most important and he should lead us with a better attitude.
I hope he just plays his football and be the player we know he can, im sick of the Gerrard drama every year
Also i love the way these stories come out before a big match!!When you feel like you're done, you are not alone........

Not sure that is right or the right way to put it as Stevie still has captains roles that he fulfills quite well.Originally posted by Dhavlos View Post
I believe this as well. Xabi is Rafa's brain on the pitch. Gerrard may be the de jure captain but Xabi is the de facto captain.
I do agree that if Stevie were to leave that Xabi should be the next captain.Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

Perhaps. But on Wednesday I thought it was a very un-captain-like performance from Gerrard. We needed to be composed. We werent. The captain needed to set the tone, set the tempo, get the play moving. Gerrard failed to do it. I would have had a lot more confidence in Xabi doing that on Wed.Originally posted by Skillz View PostNot sure that is right or the right way to put it as Stevie still has captains roles that he fulfills quite well.

I agree that Xabi is perhaps not the man to gee his teammates up compared to Carra, but I think he fits the bill in every other aspect. He is the key man IMO.Originally posted by thesilverfoxlfc View Post...too quiet for me, obviously carra would be next captainWhite liquid in a bottle = Milk

...he is very much key to our success and was one of rafa's first buy so he must of been looking at him for awhile even at valencia.Originally posted by Dhavlos View PostI agree that Xabi is perhaps not the man to gee his teammates up compared to Carra, but I think he fits the bill in every other aspect. what has happen to xabi though we no longer see the 40 yeard pin point passing that he done so many times in his first 2 seasons. when he plays with stevie he seems restricted and just lets stevie off to do his thing. i must say he doesnt play well with stevie lately
...the game rafa has him playing has restricted him i think he stay's too deep and just does some short passing now, nothing adventures anymore.
and something i have noticed is momo getting higher up the pitch and been in postions that really he shouldnt be nor has the skill to be. momo should start in front of the back 4 when he plays and xabi get more forward and influence the game better like he done the last couple of seasons.Last edited by thesilverfoxlfc; 28-10-07, 03:44 PM.When you feel like you're done, you are not alone........
