He's a player Rafa likes because he's tactically excellent.

I have to take my hats off to you for saying that mate.

And Yossi and Babel are not as tactically aware as Voronin and Kuyt. I've said that last night. I'll say it again, football is not all about pass and move and playing sexy stuff. There's more to it. Kuyt was excellent in that regard.

I see, so Kuyt was tactically excellent because you said he is?

Sorry mate, i dont see your reasoning anywhere in that as to why Kuyt was/is so tactically excellent.

He was shocking, im not going to get into slating him off but he couldnt trap a bag of cement for starters and thats disgraceful for an international footballer.

You can't see my reasoning ? If Babel played, he would have been murdered defensively. Is that really difficult to understand ? Kuyt is more aware of his defensive duties and probably runs more than Babel.

Kuyt is a fantastic player, not in the sense that so many of you want though. We must have a team of Ronaldihno's to please everyone.

The fact that you say that playing a striker out of position and he's aware of his defensive duties just about says it all where Kuyt is concerned.

Dirk is not and never will be a fantastic player. The Ronaldinho comment is ridiculous, please dont get prickly because youve been asked to explain your comments. Nobody wants a team of Ronaldinho's but then neither do we all want a team of workaday pro's who can run all day but cannot master the basics of the game.
I do not want to see Dirk leave, but he is a squad player at very very best, is that really difficult to understand? I want to see our stikers playing with the mobility, skill and movement that the Arsenal strikers showed yesterday and who do every game. What i dont want is a ponderous, leaden-footed striker who is aware of his defensive duties playing every single game when we clearly have a more attacking threat on the bench.
                  Anyhoo

you're far mor polite than i am. i want dirk to be sold along with voronin. Whether we like it or not crouch will be gone in January.

3 strikers out means babel being played as a striker and 2 new strikers being brought in the next 2 transfer windows.

Kuyt is probably a squad player but good enough to play for Holland.

Do you think Babel and Yossi would have fared better last night and we would have won the match ? We needed to control Arsenal's midfield and we did it. Am not sure Babel would have been able to do what Kuyt did.

If I say that Kuyt is a 'fantastic' player, it's based on the fact that he's a very good all rounder, not simply an attacker as he can do a number of jobs on the field. I thought you would have seen the subtlety.

Dirk & Voronin wont be sold in January, Crouch on the other hand seems certain to go, which would be disappointing.
Id be amazed if 2 new strikers were bought in January.

First time I've come online since the end of that embarrassment.

Anyone who thinks we played well yesterday needs their f*cking heads examined. These one or two posters need a reality check because they're clearly blinded by their own misplaced and totally over the top positivity.

That was a poor poor performance. We were absolutely and totally outplayed by Arsenal on our own turf and how we ended up not losing the game I'll never know. We were given a footballing lesson by a far superior and technically gifted team, a team who play football with players who are able to control a football and pass from a to b.

                          That was depressing

pass and move isn't necessarily sexy. its just possession.

pass and move at very high tempo and with lots of penetration is sexy, yes.

but pass and move is keeping the ball and moving it about. it isn't necessarily sexy. but it is your starting point to winning football matches.

yes there's more to it. but to be honest i think get a team passing and moving and demanding the ball and working off the ball for each other and you're a good 90% of the way there.

Arsenal are playing the way I described it in my thread, the key to football. It looks like it's very effective.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Is this a post from the Marseille match thread cos its not about yesterday.

Yesterday was hard graft v style and flair and it finished even. As much as you think Arsenal shouldve won, I happen to think we could have won just as easily. Yesterday was a vast improvement and we played much better and had enough to hold and, barring injuries, beat the current beast team in the land.
