That was a poor poor performance. We were absolutely and totally outplayed by Arsenal on our own turf and how we ended up not losing the game I'll never know. We were given a footballing lesson by a far superior and technically gifted team, a team who play football with players who are able to control a football and pass from a to b.

    That was depressing

it would have been a robbery if we had won it. But it was down to injuries more than anything else.

Yesterday was hard graft v style and flair and it finished even. As much as you think Arsenal shouldve won, I happen to think we could have won just as easily. Yesterday was a vast improvement and we played much better and had enough to hold and, barring injuries, beat the current beast team in the land.
Mate, I'm just on a real downer with regards to the reds and I genuinely thought we got completely outplayed yesterday. The fact of the matter is, apart from Chelsea and Derby at home we've been very very average this season and that's worrying.

To be fair with the injuries we've had I think we're doing pretty well. Do you think Arsenal would be doing so well without Fabregas, Adebayor and Toure?

We have not played good this season, if you include every competitive game then we have won 8 drawn 6 and lost 2. We have only won 50% of our competitive games.

We have really only played three very difficult games, Chelsea and Arsenal at home and Porto away. The rest of the games are games that we should be able to win.

Portsmouth away is a difficult game but we should still be able to win it. Teams like Villa or Newcastle should be happy with a point against them but not a team like us.

Villa away is the same thing, we won that one but it's a game we should be able to win, the same goes for the Everton game.

We need to up our winning % to at least 70%-80%, 50% isn't good enough in a long way for a top club like us.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Totally agree mate. They play a brand of football we can only dream about.

Also it debunks the myth that you need mega millions to produce a top team. Sure Arsenal spend money but they have done it by spotting outstanding young talent and nurturing it, not by splashing out £20m+ on every position.

Wenger is a genius of a manager. I'm not saying given time Rafa can't produce
such a team but thats the sort of team I'd love us to have.

We've always been the best side if you look at the last 15 matches in the league these last 2 seasons. If we remain 6/8 points off the top or if we can be closer still, we'll be right up there in the run in. I'm confident of that, why wouldn't I be ?

The sooner we get back our best players up and running (Stevie is already there), we'll improve our level of play. I still feel, that at times we were very good last night.

absolutely key player for lfc alongside carragher. with him we concede about 1 goal per 180 mins - that means were ALWAYS in with a chance in any game

And that team plays like that because they have been together for years because Wenger has been there for years. You want that football, you keep our manager for just as long. We cant be Arsenal over night no matter who is in charge of us.

Wenger stamped his authority on the Arsenal team almost immediately, they were playing free flowing football with the 'old' Arsenal defence and some new signings like Viera, Anelka, Overmars.

Wenger's philosophy on football seem to be at poles with Rafa's.
                    We come not to play.

Rafa can be here for 100 years but we'll never play like Arsenal as Wenger and Rafa's footballing philosophies are clearly very very different. To be honest, as long as we play good attractive football with winning every match as our target then I'll be happy.

That's not entirely true as, of the team that started yesterday, only Kolo Toure has been at Arsenal more than 6 months before Rafa joined us. Compare it to LFC who had Finnan, Riise, Carra, Sami and Gerrard who were all around at least 1 year prior to Rafa joining us.

The difference is that Wenger has had many years to get in all his young players and learn them the Wenger way of playing football.

Rafa have only just started to get in some very exiting young and promising players. You can more or less say that we are in the same position as Arsenal was 7-8 years ago when it comes down to young players and getting them through to the first team.

In two, three, four years from now then is the time to judge Rafa and his youth set up and the A-team.

We have signed Barcas second best young striker in Pacheco, Reals best young attacking midfielder/striker in Bruna, one of Swedens best talents in Ajdarevic, two of Hungarys best young players and have Eccleston who looks very promising.

I think that is a very good start.

I'd love to play like Arsenal, who wouldn't? But when we did play similarly under Evans (see the way we played in the first half when going 3-0 up against Newcastle second 4-3 around 1997) it pretty much got us nowehere. Yes their philosophies are different but it doesn't necessarily mean that Rafa's methods are less successful.

We are capable of playing some good stuff. Look at how we played v Barca last season at Anfield - we went for them and outplayed them. As long as we play decent football, which I think we do at times under Rafa (and we play better now under Rafa than at any time under Houllier IMO), win games and pick up trophies that's all that matters.

I'm not slagging Arsenal at all, anyone would love to watch a team play like that. The speed and accuracy of their passing is amazing BUT Arsenal can only play like that at the moment. That is a limitation in itself.

Xavi was brilliant, if he hadn't of gone off I honestly believe we would have won. Gerrard getting back at it, and Masher was superb. Think that's a enough of improvement to ask for in one match. Stop the unforced errors- Risse, Kuyt and Voronin were the main culprits yesterday- and we're back in it.
