People can defend him all they like for his workrate etc but that doesn't change the fact he's simply just not good enough
Agreed. Top class professional, gives 150% every single game but so did Eric Meijer and he wasn't good enough either. We all like a trier but when its all huff and puff without any end result it begins to grate and in the end it's detrimental to the side. Rafa is playing him at the moment because our squad isn't exactly loaded with talented forwards but I genuinely think come the summer he'll swing the axe and Kuyt will be gone. It's not just about today's match it's about his perfromances overall.

How anyone can think he's good enough is beyond me.

This is the problem for me.

Kuyt did okay today. Some of his movement was very intelligent but the bottom line is HE CARRIES NO GOAL THREAT.

Torres has our entire attacking hopes on his shoulders. He's carrying all of the burden by himself. A strike partner, to a large extent, should share the load but when Kuyt's playing, Torres carries it alone and that is not ****ing easy. He carried it alone again today and missed some chances, but he's the only one getting in there and looking to put his neck on the block. Kuyt plays too deep, too wide, and as a goal threat he is impotent.

Its a merged thread. Its got about half a dozen threads full of "ill concieved bollocks" in it. If we got rid completely, or didn't merge them, there's be a new thread about it each week, which would be far far worse, or have the subject polluting other threads, as happened with the post-match thread today (until they all the posts got put in here). At least this way all you have to do is avoid this one

thats true, but probably only 5 or 6 (maybe) of our players are good enough to get into a title winning side, theres nothing we can do about that until the summer, you wont buy much quality in jan, so we should support whats there and get behind them, not pick on one player, and one thats told to do the dirty job up front

sorry mate but that doesn't add up.

i don't defend him because of his workrate - i suggest that it is a good trait to have, one that most players don't have in abundance. Maybe skill wise he isn't good enough, but his movement is first rate - better than most top strikers.

                in essence:

                Skill - not good enough
                Workrate - good enough
                Movement - good enough
                Finishing - not good enough
Influence on others in the squad - should be good enough

Overall, I [and Rafa] rate him above Crouch and the Crow. Therefore, unless we get a better striker between now and Jan 31st I'm behind him all the way. What happens in the summer is a different story.

I don't agree that he's told to play so deep.

Why then, when Voronin plays, does he not **** about in non-threatening areas? I don't think Voronin's particularly good but he gets in threatening areas, follows things up and at least has the guts to get in there and try and hurt teams. Kuyt just doesn't.

I think Kuyt's been played out of position almost the entire time he's been here. No wonder he's low on confidence. He gives his all and he's a Red. But to answer your question, I disagree with ****s like you singling him out after every poor TEAM performance, or indeed good TEAM performance as the case is today.

I honestly believe it's because he's given that role by Rafa and unlike some players sticks to it for the TEAM. I don't know if he's good enough for us, but it's **** the way people are always making him the scapegoat.

of course he is told to do that.

i am sure if a player didnt follows rafa's instructions, they wouldnt play the majority of games,

they play how the manager tells them to play (Manager - you know, that fella who does the tactics)
