Malcolm Ellias says in an interview with Kacaniklic and Ajdarevic in a Swedish paper that Alexander Kacaniklic is even faster than Walcott.

I guess that he should know.

Ajdarevic should know in two months time if he will move to Melwood or not from the Academy.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I'm glad Kacaniklic is getting games now, he will hopefully turn out to be a very good player, as i can remeber alot of talk when he came to us on trial, he looks very good on the ball and does have very good pace.

I really didnt believe he was walcot quick, hopefully he will be as quick as him and as agile as walcot on the ball, but he seems to have that extra ability which the likes of Gonzalez didnt have.

Would be great to see a full translated article but hey if not then thanks for the info.

Also if asterich doesnt get moved to the reserves ill be very surprised, he deserves it and the push will see what he is truly made of, which is hopefully a very very good player.

          YOUTH CUP DATE REVEALED
          Jimmy Rice 02 January 2008

Liverpool Under-18s will continue their defence of the FA Youth Cup against either Burnley or Arsenal on Wednesday, January 16.
The fourth round tie is set to kick off at Anfield at 7pm.

However, supporters are advised the date could change if the first team requires an FA Cup replay with Luton, or if the Youth Cup tie between Arsenal and Burnley is postponed.

Entry to Anfield for the game will be through the Kop turnstiles, with the following admission prices being charged:

          Adults: £4

          Concessions: £2

            UNDER-18S READY FOR BUSY MONTH
            Steve Hunter 04 January 2008

Liverpool Under-18s get ready for a busy month of fixtures when they resume their Academy season with a trip to Bolton Wanderers in their first match of 2008 on Saturday.
Supporters should note the Bolton game takes place at the Euxton training ground at 11am.

January will be a good test for Hughie McAuley's side as they have an FA Youth Cup fouth round tie looming against Arsenal or Burnley at Anfield, and league encounters against Everton, Manchester United and Manchester City.

The year 2007 was a good one for the Academy team as they retained the FA Youth Cup with a fantastic win over Manchester United, and the current crop of players are certainly making names for themselves under coach Hughie McAuley.

England youth international striker Nathan Eccleston has led the way with 15 goals in 17 games, and strike partner Marvin Pourie has 10 in 13. Winger David Amoo has chipped in with eight goals and the team have scored 10 in their last two games.

The Under-18 manager said confidence in the camp is high and the players are eager for action after their Christmas break.

"It is a busy month for us but we are looking forward to it," said McAuley. "We have had a good first part of the season and we hope to keep progressing and playing good football in the second half.

"The FA Youth Cup tie will be fantastic because it will be a chance for the lads to play at Anfield for the first time and hopefully we can do well in the competition again.

"Our main job as always is to produce players to go to Melwood, and if we can get one or two of the lads up there at the end of the season then that has to be considered a success. We think we have got a few talented boys in our squad and it is up to them to keep progressing.

"I have always said we are a team who are going to score a lot of goals. We create a lot of chances and have people like Nathan and Marvin who are always a threat.

"Nathan is doing really well and is very focused on his game. Hopefully he can continue to show people what a good player he is and try and force his way into the reserve team squad towards the end of the season.

"The one aspect of our game I want to see us improve on is our defending. We have conceded sloppy goals from set pieces and we have been working on that in training. Martin Kelly who is now at Melwood makes a big difference to us when he plays because he gives us more stability at the back."

                Liverpool sign Swiss youngster

Liverpool have signed Grasshopper Zurich's U/16 player Pajtim Kasami.

The central defender has apparently been lured to Anfield thanks to Piet Hamberg who now works as Technical Director at the Academy.

Hamberg was head coach at Grasshoppers three times between 1997 and 2007.

The youngster is very highly-rated and has represented Switzerland at youth level.

Meanwhile, Italian newspapers are reporting that Juventus want to loan Momo Sissoko till the end of the season. Liverpool are obviously keen on selling in order to fund a deal to sign Javier Mascherano.

Academy: Hero Oldfield saves the points

                  Jan 8 2008

A PENALTY save from goalkeeper Chris Oldfield allowed Liverpool under- 18s to start the New Year with a point as they drew 1-1 at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

Hugh McAuley’s side ended the first part of the season with 5-0 wins in both the league and FA Youth Cup against West Brom and Wycombe respectively and when they led after three minutes through Martin Kelly it looked like they would carry on in similar fashion. But after Bolton equalised just before half- time they were indebted to 16-year-old keeper Chris Oldfield to earn a point.

Kelly headed in from Steve Irwin’s cross following a short corner from Gary Mackay-Steven to provide the early lead. Liverpool had numerous chances to increase that lead through top scorer Nathan Eccleston, Marvin Pourie, David Amoo and Sean Highdale, but the home side equalised with a close-range header just on half-time.

On 65 minutes Oldfield saved from the spot after Joe Kennedy had brought down a Bolton attacker in the area. And Liverpool hung on for a draw.

Coach McAuley said: “We started off very well and took the lead in three minutes and for the next 20 minutes or so we played very well and created chances. We and looked sharp and could easily have increased the lead. But after that they came more into the game and it was finely balanced

“In the second half they were sharper, brighter and had more possession than us. Our passing was a little bit careless and we were glad Chris Oldfield saved the penalty. We weren’t as sharp as we could have been and that might be to do with it being the first game after a break. Hopefully we will be a bit better next time.”

Liverpool face Everton in the Academy League Merseyside derby on Friday, the match being brought forward with a 3pm kick-off at their neighbours’ new Finch Farm training complex.

McAuley said: “We are looking forward to Friday and with it being at their new Academy it should be a great occasion. They are always good games and the last time we played it was close and it is bound to be similar this time.”

Liverpool were due to face either Burnley or Arsenal at Anfield in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup next midweek. But with the first team involved in a FA Cup replay with Luton, the match has had to be rearranged with no date yet to be arranged.

LIVERPOOL UNDER-18s: @Oldfield; Irwin, O’Connor, Kelly, Kennedy; Highdale, Amoo, Ajdarevic, Mackay-Steven (Kacaniklic 45); Pourie (Scott 80), Nathan Eccleston (Collins 60). Subs: Hansen, Awang.

                    From .no:

Dalla Valle has arrived as well.

According to other websites Dalla Valle played for our under 17's today and got a hatrick against our under 18's in a 3-3 draw

probally mentioned in another thread on the site but would be useful here.

So, for those worrying about finding a second goalscorer - wait 3 years, we'll have loads of them then.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

                          Why wait three years?

I don't care if the player is 17 or 30 years old. If he is good enough then he should play.

It is true that age should not, in itself, be a barrier.

But it is not right to rush even the most prodigious talents. The whole point of having an academy is so kids can enter a development system that will give them every chance to maximise their potential when they come out of the other end.

If a youngster has the physical and psychological as well as footballing attributes to progress faster than his peers and finish the process quicker, great.

But to chuck him in at the deep end based on a handful of promising performances would be irresponsible and would undermine the whole development system.
It's not good because it's rude. It's good because it looks like it's good because it's rude.
