Ecclestone pleased with Liverpool progress
tribalfootball.com - February 05, 2008
Liverpool management have high hopes for England youth international striker Nathan Ecclestone.
Ecclestone is actually from Manchester, but was snapped up by Liverpool as a 15 year-old: "I'm from Newton Heath in Manchester. It's not far from the City of Manchester Stadium. I signed from Bury FC when I was 15-years-old. I came on a two-day trial and played against Bolton Wanderers. I played at Anfield a week after that and then I signed papers with Liverpool."
He also told liverpoolfc.tv: "My target is probably to push on and get into the reserves and hopefully move to Melwood. If not now, then in the summer. I'll see how it goes from there. You never know, I could even get a chance to play a pre-season game against one of the lower league teams. But I'll just have to wait and see I suppose."
Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
U-18S HELD BY STOKE
Paul Hassall at the Academy 09 February 2008
Liverpool Under-18s warmed up for next week's Youth Cup tie at Sunderland with a 1-1 draw at home to Stoke City.
Hugh McAuley's men made a bright start to the match but fell behind on 11 minutes when City's Jimmy Phillips curled in a delightful free-kick.
It was a goal against the run of play, but the hosts recovered and went in at the interval level when Joe Kennedy turned in Astrit Ajdarevic's free-kick on 39 minutes.
The Reds improved after the break but despite seeing the visitors reduced to 10-men they could not find that elusive winning goal.
LIVERPOOL chief scout Eduardo Macia may not have won any prizes at the ECHO sports personality awards on Monday night, but he was still one of the happiest guests at the fantastic ECHO Arena.
The reason for his delight was a text message which arrived midway through the awards ceremony telling him that Liverpool reserves had gone one up at Bolton and the scorer was 17-year-old prodigy Dani Pacheco.
Macia was instrumental in bringing Pacheco to Liverpool from Barcelona, despite the Spanish giants’ desperate efforts to hold on to the talented teenager.
No doubt Macia was even happier when he saw the video of Pacheco's goal – his first for the reserves – the following morning as it underlined the huge potential everyone at Anfield believes he possesses.
He still has a long way to go but Pacheco could well be one for Liverpool’s future.
Adam Pepper made his debut in the under 18's on Sat (right wing), we won 2-0
Match report available on original post.
Will update stats tomorrow.
Meant to be a bit special this fella isn't he? Lad we nicked from Everton who they reckon was gonna be the next Rooney - he's probably only 15 or 16 now
What's happened with the young Finn, Dalla Valle - didn't he burst on the scene scoring a hat trick on his debut in an internal behond closed doors game - haven't heard anything since though ........ is he for the u-18s or supposed to be with the reserves from the start?
At a football club there's a holy trinity- the players the manager and the supporters, Directors dont come into it, they are only there to sign the cheques " - Bill Shankly
If we moved these stickies back we'd currently have like, 9, in the lfc forum, which is just too many. One of the best threads on the site this, its a shame for it to get less traffic in here I agree, but hopefully it'll be integrated into the frontend we're currently developing in some way which'll promote it, and the others like it, much better.

U18S HELD AFTER CONTROVERSIAL PENALTY
Jimmy Rice 01 March 2008
Liverpool Under-18s were hard done by during a 1-1 draw at home to Wolves onSaturday morning. A second-half equaliser from Steven Irwin earned the boys a point after a controversial penalty decision helped give the visitors an early lead.
Michael Scott was adjudged to have handled in the box on 25 minutes – yet a bloody nose provided proof that the ball had clearly hit the young defender in the face.
Boss Hughie McAuley said: "Michael actually needed medical attention to his face, so it clearly wasn't a penalty.
"After that we fought back well in the second half and created a few chances. Our problem right now is that, although we're defending quite well and working hard in midfield, we've got three strikers who can't seem to score at the moment.
"David Amoo, Marvin Pourie and Nathan Eccleston we scoring for fun before Christmas but they just seem to be lacking a bit of confidence at the moment.
"That's something we need to work on before our next match at home to Barnsley in two weeks, and I'm sure once one of them hits the net the others will follow suit."

LIVERPOOL under-18s aim to score only their second Premier Academy League victory of 2008 when they return to action this weekend.
Hugh McAuley’s side didn’t have a fixture on Saturday, but face Barnsley at the Kirkby Academy this Saturday (kick-off 11am).
After a prolific start to the campaign, Liverpool have stuttered in front of goal since the turn of the year. But coach McAuley is hoping that they can get back to their earlier scoring form.
He said: “By and large our football is okay at the moment. We are in that sort of phase at the moment, where we are creating chances without taking them. Earlier in the season all the forwards were scoring them quite frequently and we just need to get back to that.
“All we can do is work on the stuff we have been working on and hope we can get back to the way we were in scoring goals.
“It is a situation that happens to most teams at some stage during a season. But we have four games left and we want to finish the season off strongly and get back to scoring again.”
Liverpool have just four Academy League matches left with two at home to Barnsley and Derby County and two away at Leeds and a re-arranged fixture with north west group leaders Manchester City.
But they will also go to the Middle East for a tournament when the Academy League shuts down for the Easter holidays.
Nathan Eccleston was back amongst the goals as Liverpool Under-18s beat Barnsley 3-0 in their lastest Academy match on Saturday.
The England youth international scored his 18th goal of the season as Hughie McAuley's side warmed up for their midweek trip to the United Arab Emirates.
After a goalless first half Liverpool stepped up the pace in the second half and the Tykes had no answer. Rising starlet, 16-year-old Adam Pepper scored his first goal for the Under-18s and Astrit Ajdarevic was also on the mark.
"We played really well in the second half and we could have scored a lot more than three in the end," McAuley told Liverpoolfc.tv.
"Barnsley worked very hard in the first half to stop us but we were much better in the second period. Our passing was a lot sharper and we played some good football.
"Astrit scored an excellent goal when he beat two defenders and found the net from the edge of the box. Nathan then set up Adam who scored our second goal with a finish similar to what you would expect from Michael Owen.
"Nathan got a deserved goal when he finished well after some excellent play from David Amoo. David then hit the bar and he was a constant threat to the Barnsley defence. He was unlucky not to score today."
Liverpool Under-18s team: Chris Oldfield, Michael Scott, Shane O'Connor, Jack Metcalf, Joe Kennedy, Sean Highdale (Mattone Awang 85), David Amoo, Astrit Ajdarevic, Adam Pepper (Ben Parsonage 80), Nathan Eccleston, Alex Kacaniklic. Sub unused: Martin Hansen (GK).
