I don't like either of them but I think i'd prefer Crouch in there as opposed to Kuyt. Ok Kuyt gets all over the pitch but if we needed someone to run all day then buy a marathon runner.

Kuyt scores more often than Crouch - FACT!

I've always said individual stats are meaningless. There is no way you can match the two players without introducing an element of bias either way.
All I will say is Crouch has developed as a player since he came here and it's strange how some people are not affording Kuyt the same opportunity.
Crouch looks to score more than Kuyt these days, one of the frustrating things about Kuyt is he doesn't look to get in the box and stick it in the net. He's forever drifting out wide.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

Might be because kuyt has gone backwards.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostI've always said individual stats are meaningless. There is no way you can match the two players without introducing an element of bias either way.

Just to reiterate, my point is not to put forward an argument for any of the two strikers, but to put forward an argument against a forum myth.
I am not really interested in stats, and like to see the whole picture when I consider players efforts. And I am not one to bash on about judging players on goals per games alone. I just put this up for those who usually bash on about such things.
They have both had ups and downs in form, and both bring different qualities to the table. Right now I would start Crouch in front of Kuyt.
As for goals per minute, I have no idea. It wouldn't surprise me if it would look different then, but I honestly don't know.--== Because the gang and the government is no different ==--

I guess there is a valid point in that Kuyt's lack of goals and form might be temporary as he adds something to his game. However there is another problem in that we can't support three strikers with no great pace who don't score many goals in our squad if we want to win the league. At the minute Kuyt and Voronin seem to play the same role in our squad more or less and Voronin is playing better.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostI've always said individual stats are meaningless. In order to remain a viable member of the squad Kuyt needs to add either more creativity or preferably more goals to his game."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Do you mind digging those numbers out, and not just dish such a statement out as a fact?Originally posted by The_Milkman View PostI think tou'll find that if you did it by mins on the pitch, Crouch would have a better record

I could make some up, if that would help.Originally posted by tomasjj View PostDo you mind digging those numbers out, and not just dish such a statement out as a fact?

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

I don't go for stats myself so that's outrageous. I dunno, you offer to help and people spit in your face. Who will change 'spit' to 'come'?.

If we take out crouches first 18 games when he was having a tough time of it, why don't we take Kuyts last 18 or so games out then, when he's been having a tough time just to settle things up, Kuyt would still have the better record. Lets be honest when both are playing at their level as they were towards the end of last season, they were pretty much evens. IMO neither are good enough, and I'd only keep Torres and Voronin from our strikers, torres is our number one and Voronin is a capable 3rd or 4th choice and would probably be happy with that. If Babel could step his game up, then we'd only need to buy 1 other striker.Thomas Hicks Senior
