He's only 23, has 30 international caps in one of the best teams in the world, He is in my opinion one of the top 5 players in the world at what he does. I can see an improvement in his play in all the games he plays in. He's reliable and has a Carra attitude of giving 150%

I think the issue might be that if we could 'buy' Mascherano for £17m then in say 3-4 years time we could perhaps sell him for a similar amount or more maybe....... But, becasue of the 3rd party ownership, at the end of the £17m contract he would have no value to us. There is no return on the investment other than winning games.

That's not exactly true. He will be a contracted player like anyone else and his onsale value will depend on the length remaining on his contract. In other words if he signs a 4 year deal with us and does not re-sign then 4 years later he is a free agent. Pedantic I know but thought i would put it out there anyway.
