Got to say I don't like this attitude of thinking a draw is good enough, let us be honest Porto will beat Besiktas so only a win will do.

OK lets assume that Porto beat Besiktas by my calculations a 1-0 win over Marseille should be enough to get us thru
applying the Uefa rules
If two or more teams are level on points they are split by
(a) higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question, (even 3 points each)
(b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question (even 1 goal each)
(c) higher number of goals scored away from home the group matches played among the teams in question (still even 1 away goal each)
(d) superior goal difference from all matches played, (Liverpool win)
(e) higher number of goals scored, (Liverpool win)
(f) higher number of coefficient points accumulated by the club in question, as well as their association, over the previous five seasons. (I think we win this one too)
of course any win other than 1-0 brings c) and b) into accountLast edited by Iceman; 29-11-07, 06:01 PM.Lawrenson:"Well thats 3 good chances they have had in the first 3 minutes of this half"

But don't Porto have a better head to head record against Marsielle?Originally posted by Iceman View PostSorry you are wrong, that scenario would have Besiktas top on 9 points and the other 3 teams on 8
Marseille would take 2nd spot because of their head to head results against us (1 win 1draw) we would take 3rd because of our head to head results against Porto (1 Win 1 draw)

When it's decided by 'results between the teams' it's always a mini league. Those goals last night were invaluable. . . Although porto won't lose. Any win vs the french will do as we're the away team. Edit - lol, forgot they lost last night. If they had won we'd still qualify with any win.Last edited by disco; 29-11-07, 06:36 PM.Quote of the year :

of course
trying to work out these Uefa regulations does my head in
a draw only gets us through IF Besiktas beat Porto?
otherwise a draw lets Marseille go through on a) and b)?

How can it be head to head between three teams, when each one of the three has a better head to head against one of the other three?Originally posted by Ben_Itez View PostJust read t'other thread. Not sure about this mini league between the three....surely it's just head to head record and as a result we'd finish third. Could be wrong but seems the simplest way but knowing UEFA you could be right.

No, YOU are wrong.
Why would Marseille take 2nd spot, when PORTO have a better head to head against Marseille? THATS why it goes to a mini league, because Porto have a better head to head against Marseille, Marseille have a better head to head against us and WE have a better head to head against Porto.
So why would Marseille finish above Porto?
It'd be a three team mini league and we'd qualify. FACT.

ANY win for us takes us through.
IF we draw, we'll still go through, but ONLY if Besiktas win in Porto.
End of.

Radio Merseyside have just tried to explain it (I am still none the wiser)
they say we go through if we beat Marseille by any score or draw if Besiktas beat Porto
They explained it thus:
We have a better head to head against Porto
Porto have a better head to head v Marseille
Marseille would have a better head to head v us
therefore goal difference over all group matches would come into play putting us through in 2nd
there was no mention of a mini league and they seemed to think that the 8 goals against Besiktas would countLawrenson:"Well thats 3 good chances they have had in the first 3 minutes of this half"
Motson:"" Yes Mark, you could almost say that they have had 3 chances in as many minutes"
