If both stadiums hold 70,000 then i have no problem with the 'standard' one over the fancy one if it means our club is not saddled with an extra £180m worth of debt.
i'd be willing to take on that extra debt for the spectacular one, it was something to be proud of a monument for the future, the other one is merely a stadium...

even though i don't doubt the info, i seriously doubt the yanks will go through with this, after every thing they went through to get it done and the publicity surrounding it. they'd look like fools...

Agree with Diego, the stadium is for life not just for Xmas - we only get one chance to get it right. If we're going to be stuck with the original design can someone tell me what the **** have the Americans added to LFC?

There's a minimum of 180,000,000 reasons why i'd rather have the standard design over the fancy design.

No point having a good stadium if we can't have a decent team on the park.

Anfield looks **** on the outside but it is so well known because of the atmosphere and history created on the inside. The new look is really nice but if it was filled by Evertonians then it would be a poorer stadium.

I like many of the others, really hope he is wrong this time.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

            * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

but surely that would be a separate budget, we would never see those 180 mill on players. it simply means they have a hard time raising cash for the shiny one, no guaranty we'll have a bigger player budget with the lesser one.

                Relax guys...

£180m for the updated design extras? No way...

I'm an Architect, I work in Manchester now & have known people & have worked with ex AFL staff (the people who designed the original ****e stadium)...

In my experience (& I've been a qualified architect for over 10 years now) the design changes are nowhere near £180 worth...

It willl be more expensive; thats inevitable (thanks to the Chinese!) but I'm sure G&H have accounted for this... It will be built & unlike the crap AFL Design it will be uniquely ANFIELD
What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

                F*** off!!!

If we're going to have a stadium that is just like any other then IMO we might as well just groundshare with Everton or use someone else's stadium, as all we will have is a stadium that is ours in name only. It will have no distinctive character. Anfield currently may look ****, but at least it is distinctive.

FFS, you know even Anorthosis Famagusta of Cyprus are building a 20,000 seater stadium that is a carbon copy of the Emirates design! New Anfield will be indistinguishable from a Cypriot stadium!

Whilst we would all prefer the 2nd design for our new stadium I do have some sympathy for the Yanks with this one.
We could not be building the stadium at a more expensive time. The Chinese demand for steel has sent its price going through the roof and the credit crunch has sent borrowing costs sky high as well.

Its easy to say build the 2nd one but not if it saddles the club with nearly £200m extra debt.

If we changed plans again, do you think we`ll have to change the application/timetable for the stadium oncemore?
                      We need better attacking players!

not much to add to that but have we been sold up the river with this lot and parry steering the titanic?

They should have thought of all this a few months ago when they came out all guns blazing bragging about their new design. They're successfull businessmen aren't they? Surely they're experts at long term planning and forward thinking?

I have zero sympathy with them.

Let's wait and see what happens because the next couple of major decisions they make will as far as I'm concerned ultimately determine whether or not they are frauds or not. No one can deny that so far they've come good with regards to the summer transfers and their promises to provide us with a state of the art stadium put them in a good light amongst most supporters. But if they fail to back Rafa further and they go back on their original stadium plans then there will be no hiding place for them.

I'm still hopeful that they will be decent owners for us in the long term but I'd be lying if I sadi I wasn't starting to be a little worried about what we've let ourselves in here for.

Yozza, I'm sure you know your stuff but I am only passing on what was said from an architect who worked on the original design and is still working for AFL. His boss (I'll PM you his name if you like) is heading the project and this information is not bull****. Check out my original thread back in March if you doubt the source or his reliability:
