I want to be with you on this one Nic, I really do because I don't think Riise is as bad as has been made out on here in recent months.
But when I see him winding up for yet another 35 yarder into row Z it mades me so mad

You can't do that until the player is physically ready to do it.
rooney was physically ready at about the age of 16, he could hold his own against defenders then.

      fabregas?

if you're good enough, you're old enough.

Yeah, it really looks like Rooney was ready, he is only injured three, four, five months/season now

        I wonder why?
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

gerrard started young? giggs? Beckham? were they injured all the time?

          nope.

some people are just injury prone.

Gerrard had big injury problems, Giggs had big hamstring problems, Beckham didn't play week in week out in the PL until 21.

              Don't rate him.

              Great stamina and attitude.
              Never injured.
              Ok in the air.
Good cross on him, when it gets past the first man...
Decent squad player, but sort of not good enough defensively for left back and not good enough going forward for left mid.

Abysmal decision making and game intelligence.
              Can't tackle.
Gets pulled out of position a lot.
Terribly one footed.(so are others in the squad though...and I don't like it when pro's are crap with the other foot...Maradonnas are excused...)

Ok he's not the best as Nic says but he's also not the worst, far from it.
Overall he's a very useful member of the squad and should be given a new contract.
                I agree with you mate.

Riise has been consistent over the last four years or so, and although hasn't been played as regularly this season is still a key figure in our first team squad this season.

He has experience, strength, a good left peg, a good engine, and he also pops up with a good few goals each season. His positional play and defending haven't been his strongest weapon over the years and is his weakness, but overall he's been a great signing for us.

Played well in Rafa's first season but confidence seems to have evaporated subsequently.

Gerrard's book describes his self belief as being a bit fragile and that shows in his current performances.

Still a handy squad player but we ought to be trying to replace him with better when it comes to contract time.

Agreed about Gallas but I've been impressed with Clichy this season, he can bomb up and down the left flank all day, and has a good touch on the ball. Defensively he needs a bit of work still.

In fairness, who out of the world's best fullbacks is a top player in the defensive sense?

I don't class the likes of galls as a full back, he is a centre half.

Zambrotta is only real one that stands out. Most of the others are great at going forward but lack a bit at the back. Such as Lahm and the very finest of the last 10 years, Roberto Carlos.

I like Riise. A good squad player who always gives 100%.

Never been good enough for Liverpool, a sad reflection on the quality of players here over his time that he has managed to play so many games. A good player? yes but is he really Liverpool class, the answer to that is a definate NO.
I'll repeat what's already been posted nothing more frustrating than Riise shooting from ****ing everywhere when he has far better options and choices, the fact that every now and again 1 goes in doesn't make it right.
Not defensively good enough to play left back, not good enough attacking to play wide left, no technical ability, poor distribution, **** positional play.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Im not his biggest fan but he is a much better player than you have just made out.

I used to be a big fan of Riises but he's starting to frustrate me more and more, when playing in defence he always seems to play the ball long, resulting in us losing possession, when he gets into the final third he shoots all the time with very few shots on target and other players are in better postions

He's given us good service but I think it's time for other people to play ahead of him (maybe keep him as back up), I've been very impressed with Arbeloa both on the left and right and would definately play him ahead of Riise
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
