On another point, funny isnt it that some people here will slag G&H for talking about footy when they allegedly have no knowledge of the game, but will quite happily disscus multi-million pound takeovers and such as if they were all experts in thier field.

I came home after that match and told Mr Bitch I thought we'd make it to Istanbul, and when he'd stopped laughing....

I take it that is party in reference to my post above.
I don't think it is funny at all mate. It is hardly slaging him off, and I think I am right in saying what I am saying, If anyone is to expalin the loss, it should be Rafa, you know, the guy who coaches and trains the team, sets them up tactically and physically and mentally. Not Hicks who as Mr Young said, is undermining the manager giving his reasons as to why we lost.
If he feels the team did not believe, he is saying Rafa did not have the team prepared mentally. Dress it up whichever way you want, but that is in effect, what he is saying. It is Rafa's job as manager to motivate his team and instil a belief in them. I have no doubt in my mind, in the slightest, that our team was confident they could beat United when they went out at Anfield. That I am 100% sure of, We beat them last season in the cup convincingly, we were robbed last season in the league after playing them off the park aswell.

As for us forumites having a say about the takeover, well it is not as if we are in a Rafa Hicks situation and are talking to the press, we are talking amongst ourselves on a forum, not to the worlds media. I am still willing to see what hicks & Gillett can bring to the table, but if they continue with comments like this, things are only going to get worse.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

I thought Hicks' comments were fairly benign but I can see why others would prefer he took a vow of silence.

I now find myself analzying how often the owners of other clubs speak to the media, and in comparison I guess G&H have been soundbite friendly over the last few months. I hate to say it but i wish they took a leaf out of the Glazer's book, and just kept stum.

Actually I wasnt making a reference to any particular post or poster, more a general observation of peoples writings over the past few weeks, and i stand by that, so no personal offence meant. if i want to name names i will. So why cant hicks give an opinion on a game (and a fair one as well), when asked about it? if we as fans can, then surely he (as the fan we all want him to be) do the same? And as for the forum, well it isnt exactly private is it. To me it shows interest in the game and the team. who knows, he may well have got his insight from Rafa!!

                        Thats why I said partly.
I think we will have to agree to dissagree, because I don't think he should be coming out in public and saying why he thinks we lost, it would be alright if it came from Rafa. But I don't think it did.
Rafa always sends his teams out with belief, the team has plenty of belief and I can't see Rafa using that excuse as to why we lost. It would be an admission on his own part that he didn't prepare the team properly, or that the team was not ready for the challenge of winning the league.
What happened on 04-05 pre Olympiakos when we needed to win in the group stages, Stevie came public and said, we know we won't win the champions League, Rafa was very quick about putting Stevie straight in what is a basic psychological need in players at top teams, belief in ones own ability. As it hapens we went on to win the most memorable final in football history. Rafa sending a team out without belief?................
When I read the Hicks quote, it immediately set alarm bells ringing in my head.

Sorry Loco, I refuse to budge on this one, it was not well said.
Hicks is evolving into our worst nightmare. As I said earlier on, I am prepared to see how the financial situation pans out before passing judgement on the new owners, but I get the feeling, Hicks is too quick to talk to the press, infact it is not just a feeling, it is a fact.

Facts based on feelings. Love it. You ever thought of starting your own religion? If so, I'm in.

I know it's an English team, but he's a Yank owner. Owners in NA get interviewed more, speak more, and get quoted more than they do over there. It may seem like a massive culture shock to hear the owners speak their mind, and actually have an opinion on things, but in all honesty I prefer an owner to be that way. Not a meddling control freak that micromanages to the very end, (read: Chelsea) but someone that actually has a thought and vision of where the club currently is and where they'd like it to go. If an open cheque book was given without a shared vision with the manager our club would be soulless.

I understand your worries Baz, and if Hicks were to have answered that question from the reporter in the interview with a "I'm sorry, I choose to not comment on that" then it would be even worse in the press, and he'd have to come out with a retraction which would have him in front of the mic yet again. The press is having a field day with "standard press release answers" with all that is going on with the stadium, ownership, bull**** rifts with Rafa, etc, so for him to be as clear-cut and precise in his answers the first time, I don't have a problem.

It is a very delicate balance, but these are the idiosyncracies that we all have to deal with with foreign ownership.

I've got to back bazza up here. Hicks had absolutely no business on criticising the teams performance in the press. He may aswell just have come out and told Rafa to motivate his players better.
