The combination of factors not just the formation, but this had a big factor. Another natural goal scorer on the field would IMO have probably have ended up with one of those missed chances going in the back of the net.

Yes, because Kuyt, Voronin and Crouch are all natural goalscorers, right?

And since Kuyt (or Voronin, or Crouch) is just so much better than Gerrard in that role behind the striker, and since Mascherano is an inferior defensive midfielder to Gerrard, playing the "4-4-****ing 2" would have clearly given us that chance to win. It would have clearly helped Gerrard to clear that ball from the box better, and would have helped us finish our clear cut chances to score, chances which were created in the "ultra defensive" 4-5-1 formation, right?

if people are happy with failing to qualify for the champs league next year and being trophyless come may then fine, bury your heads in the sand and keep backing rafa. should he stay i'll support him but i'd rather he bowed out gracefully now, accept he wasn't good enough and give someone else a shot. 3-4 years with rafa now and we still nowhere near winning the league. tinkerman making changes every game, playing players out of position and buying mediocre ****e players will not win us the league. i want to atleast finish 3rd this season which is possible with either rafa being given 40million plus in january for players or a new manager coming in and being given the same amount. i cant see g&h giving rafa more money so a new manager is the way to go.

Agree but there is one problem, If RAFA is trying the same formation & tactics he used in Spain with Valencia then sadly we wont win the league.
La Liga & The Prem are 2 different leagues with totally different players, we cant say 4231 worked there that means its defo gonna work here. Today was an example. I really respect where you coming from mate but you will have to realise soon that RAFA is getting more wrongs than rights lately.

There is a huge difference between La Liga and the PL. In La Liga four, five clubs have very much money and in the PL over half the clubs can spend big.

Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Sunderland, Everton, Tottenham, West Ham, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Man C and Portsmouth can all spend big money.

That's 12 clubs. That means that you will have to spend a lot more to stand out in the PL than you need to do in La Liga.

A lot more teams have strong squads in the PL than in La Liga. That means that you can afford one or two blips in form and still win La Liga. That's not possible in the PL.

If you have more than one bad patch then you are out of the title race in the PL.

There's a lot of after-timing about the formation going on here. 2 of the top teams play that way. My only criticism is that I wouldn't have played Pennant with Benny and Babel playing well.

At this present time no. Managers should not go mid-season. However I do think Rafa has not progressed us in terms of the PL. Give him the money and let's see what he can do. I would give him the money in Jan and the Summer and then one more season to get bloody close. However I doubt the Yanks will wait that long. Sadly, unless there is a miracle this season he'll be gone in August or before.

Difference is fredo, at the end of the season, SCUM got 3 points so they can justify taking their foot off the gas.
We didn't, we bottled it, for whatever reason we weren't good wnough to keep a clean sheet, which is exactly why we should have been more than 1-0 up.
