With a bit of luck we might get around the 9m or 10m mark, but i'd be happy to swap him for the player in your avatar! who the devil is that?

Well, as we are talking about a player on a long contract, a Spanish international, and someone who is wanted by some of the best sides in Europe, it's anybodys guess.

But any less than £15m would be ridiculous. Personally I would want about £15m - £20m.
      Forwards.......

I hope it remains a hypothetical question since then I don't have to care about it at all.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

If we go for Mascher I think Alonso will leave. I think around 12 mill at best if I'd have to venture a guess.

If Real DO want him, £15m minimum??
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

                  Not very constructive Neil.

That's too much. I'd be happy with a lump of cheese and the promise of a kiss!

                            Sure but:

                            (a) It helps to create a consensus where one or the other is seen to be expendable - at least, it's not the unthinkable which frankly is how I'd prefer it to be.

                            (b) You may wish to do so but I can't see the point. Naturally I'm not calling into question your right to think and act otherwise.

                            .

I agree with you that Xabi was top class in his first season but so were dudek and sissoko and riise and oyvind leonhardsen. probably.
Fulham(a), Sunderland(h), Derby (h) free kicks all spring to mind. Agree Gerrard has more power, but how many dead balls do you see that are hit hard and accurately? Most are placed, and in this regard Xabi is not inferior to Gerrard from dead balls IMO.

Of the players you've mentioned above who had great debut seasons, I'd say only Dudek attained the level that Alonso reached in his first season, ie looked a world beater.
