Winning youth cups won't "save us millions of pounds in the future" though will it AFII
Marketing the Academy so the best youngsters will chose us will save us millions and you can't market it in much better ways than to win trophies.
So winning trophies is a part of it.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

This is Rafa's 4th season. Houllier got 5, surely Rafa should get the same?
I have my doubts that his style of management will win us the league, in fact of what I've seen it simply won't.
But he should get more time. I'd like to see if he can correct his seemingly opaque tactical tendencies, and bin a few underperformers.
I'll admit it, at this point I'm sceptical and I've lost faith in him. He deserves the chance to prove me wrong though.
Possibly you could argue that Rafa deserves 5 seasons.
My problem with that is as follows.
As i've said, when it comes to Mourinho, i dont particularly 'like' him. (I dont hate him either, but there we go). What i DO think about him, is that he would win the title for us. I've expressed various reasons why i think this.
And the fact of the matter is, Mourinho isnt going to be available forever. He's there now and he'll be got, i'm convinced of that.
If Rafa was using what he had better, there'd be no gripe. But it's not like rafa STILL has the traores and biscans of this world, he's developed a strong squad with the ability to challenge.
But he INSISTS of removing all stability, rotating where it's folly and putting the CL top of his priorities. His current lack of security in his job is largely of his own making. He's shot himself in the foot and continues to do so.
Ultimately, he's weakening his own position and the biggest disappointment is he HAS most of what he needs to do much better. He's just too set in his ways with regards to certain methods and it's costing him points.
Come the summer, it will have cost him his job and it's a real shame.
On an extra point - if you're convinced he wont ever win us the title, what's the point in giving it another year?
So what you're saying is that there will never be a valid comparrison to make, so we're all wasting our breath because it's all hypothetical. Yes, I agree with you, it's pointless comparing the 2.
And another one. Please tomas, if you want to call me names do it in a PM, it just makes us all look ridiculous and childish by association. And I haven't turned a blind eye to it, the comparisson is invalid, I agree, pointless to try and compare the 2.
89 million in 2 transfer windows BEFORE HIS RECORD BREAKING TITLE WIN.
Ok.
I will leave it for now.
you got PM...

Even if those players don't come though to the first team.
Just concede the point AFII, players coming through the academy to play in the first tema is the reason the academy exists, and it is not to win Youth cups. FFS

I But (2) and (4) were Rafa's calls and I think played a huge part in our poor league form that saw us losing pace with Utd.
So you don't think that if signficant funds had been available that he would have brought in better qualtiy? You say yourself that one of the constraints on fund-raising was Cisse's injury. Don't think Alex has ever had that difficulty.
I don't disagree with the notion that Rafa deserves time and possibly does deserve 5 seasons but what is the point if the board and some of the fans at the matches have lost faith in his ability in the domestic league?

How do you have 'more than JMs success' with Rafa?
And in all honesty, staying in the title race for 7 extra weeks isnt really my idea of major improvement.
Thats because you have already given up. I havent, its not my nature.
I also dont want him gone if we dont win the league this year because I can see the work he is doing and i appreciate/respect him for it and want to see how it comes to fruition.
Who would not want to take over a club like ours with the players we have? Mourinho seems to want to. You think he is the best so if he wants it, surely so do lesser managers?
Bill Oddie, Bill Oddie, put your hands all over my body.
