    Title winning squad?

Take yourself back to the start of the season, even after the first half dozen games.
Now I'd like to pose you this question, do you think, if every player lives up to their potential in our squad and the squad is optimally managed and Pako is still here, we have enough talent to win the title.

I'd say unequivocally "yes we have enough talent".

    Reasons:

Pepe is the best keeper in the premiership
Finnan is the most consistent fullback in the premiership for a couple of seasos.
Carragher has consistently been the best defender in the premiership for 3 seasons.
Gerrard is the most complete midfielder in the premiership when on form.
Alonso is the best passer and most creative central midfielder in the premiership (arguably) when on form
Torres is the hottest striker in Europe.

Add to that the fact that we have internationals in every position and young stars like Babel.

this is not meant as an attack on Rafa or a judgement on him, it's purely for interest's sake. Some posters on here think we need to spend upwards of 30 million to be competitive, I'd argue that. I think there is enough talent but we haven't seen the best of many of our players, certainly not since Pako left.

I didn't think we would win after our summer spending.

We didn't buy any natural wingers, who score goals. Yossi is ok, but not top notch. Babel is a still very raw. We needed two top notch quality experienced wingers.

    We didn't buy a defender.

I did think that we would be ok up front though.

pako leaving has got nothing to do with players under performing and nothing to do with the manager occasionaly ****ing up.

I don't know about that, I think he had an influence on the players, whether it be psychological or physical. Not using him as an excise though

I'm a little messy here. I don't think we spend enough and we do have week areas. That said I think that Gerrard/Torres would give any manager a decent shot at the title. To be out now because we can't beat Spurs, Brum and Wigan at home is not good enough.

there are still far too many gaps in the first 11 in my view, especially the flanks. i never expected or demanded a league title this year. but i did expect us closer than we are.

in that sense i think we're both underfunded AND underperforming.

all we need is a top class partner for Torres and a winger.

                Thats it.

It'd be interesting to see what a manager like O'Neill would do with a top class squad.

I think he gets the best out of players, his teams are generally greater than the sum of their constituent parts which I think is a reflection of a good manager.
I'm not saying I want him at LFC, I think he's found his level at Villa, I'm not convinced he could do it at a big club and would get found out. It'd be interesting though.

You think O'Neill would be able to bring in a player like Torres? As a manager I have full confidence in him.

Don't know about signings and I'm not saying I want him as LFC manager. I'd like to see what he could do at one of the big 4 though.

The part in bold = completely subjective and utterly biased.

Gerrard's superiority to most other players is beyond question. But the rest are totally biased views.

And 'when on form' is basically meaningless, because plenty of players can be world beaters 'when on form'.

Doesnt mean it happens every other week though.
