Is this an indicator of how big Rafa's job is to catch Utd and co?

United record gross turnover of £245m to 30th June 2007. Last figure I can find for LFC is about £122m.

They have twice as much money coming in

I know they spend more, but IMO catching United on approximately half their budget is a seriously difficult task. Rafa's done pretty well so far I reckon.

Of course, being on the same level financially would make it a hell of a lot easier for Rafa.

We're not in the same league. Investment was supposed to up us a notch or two but one year into it, the noises aren't very positive.

      Good spot that.

The americans don't seem to want to put any of their own cash in a la Abramovich (though obviously not at the same level). Which is actually OK by me, but they need to drastically improve the clubs efficiency at making money, which is supposed to be their expertise.

Of course this can't happen overnight. But in the meantime.....

The Reason the Mancs are so far ahead is because we had Laurel and Hardy run the club. Whilst the Mancs increased their stadium, used SKY and the new premiership to their advantage as a global marketing tool, Laurel and Hardy were still stuck in the 1980's and all that 'tradition', making poor decision after poor decision and then making the ultimate poor decision in allowing the American's to take over.

The financial mess is one thing you can't blame on Rafa.
          We come not to play.

Perhaps that's because their money has been more hard earnt than Abramovich's

Not blaming it on Rafa at all. Perhaps should have used a smiley in last post, was being sarcastic with the last bit!

My point was that it will take some time to get to a competitive financial level, and in the meantime Rafa (or whoever else) will have a tough job to compete on such vastly different budgets.

I'm not convinced that the Americans are that bad you know. If they can get the stadium funding sorted out, they seem well equipped to improve our commercial income and over time make us self-sustaining and rich a-la United.

Haha, very possibly. I'd prefer to be in a United situation anyway, whilst it's not a quick fix, they're self sustaining and generate huge revenues every year meaning they don't require outside investment to be competitive. That has to be our aim IMO.

Its going to take years to get t the level of the Mancs, 10 years if not more.

Rafa can help the situation by making the team win things thus improving the LFC profile but as the other thread is discussing the League is going to be very difficult as to win it you need the quality player, to get the quality player you need the money, the money comes from the bigger stadium etc etc

Moores should have sold up earlier but he was a **** businessman and not tough enough. He couldn't make the tough decisions quick enough and in the end he was left with only one bid on the table with the deadline from the City and EU to get the money from them for the new stadium project only a couple of weeks away.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

if you weren't a complete pr!ck, and owned a business, which you loved, selling it, might not be such an easy thing.

David Moores did plenty for the club, and doesn't need some skando internet knob like you slagging him off
