regardless of how SG is playing at the moment i will always think 3 things about him:

1. he's not a central midfielder even though he's convinced he is.

2. he's a moody and slightly fragile psychologically and is poor captain material. not that i really think the role of captain is that important anyway.

3. he's a problem that rafa would prefer not have but i actually think that one of the reasons that rafa wanted dani alves was to provide cover for SG playing on the right. he ends up with pennant because we ****ed up and is stuck with moving gerrard around a bit or sticking him in a CM role to which he just ain't suited. freedom to roam or on the right wing is where SG needs to be.

I agree with these points, i really feel he's 'bossed' to easily in central midfield when he comes up against top opposition. I think the problem Rafa and the club have is that SG is now perceived to be bigger than LFC by the media. The media hype is so big that i don't think any manager would be able to 'make' him play on the right. Our best season in the league was with him playing a wider and more of a free role, i would like to see that again but with Torres in the side.

But the second goal wouldn't have had the impact you point to if Gerrard hadn't scored the first?

Look, I'm not saying he was solely responsible for the comeback in Istanbul, that label gets attached more to the FA Cup final in 2006, but the point I'm making is he played his part and as captain, scorer of the first, and the man who won the penalty he obviously played a role. By all means debate his worth to the team at the minute, but let's not re-write history.

He is as I said, or Raul when it comes down to if he plays or not. His body language on the pitch stinks sometimes. Raul is the perfect Captain on the pitch so that's not the comparison I mean.

****ing prick, he needs to be dropped the ****. I am getting sick to death of watching his ****e performances. Everyone seems to have a go at Kuyt, Kewell etc but our captain has been piss poor for for a few weeks now and doesn't seem interested. On current form he isn't fit to captain our club.

Even the best players suffer bad spells and confidence issues, especially when thier bosses are ****ing with everyones heads and undermining everything they are trying to achieve on the pitch. Gerrard sets exceptionally high standards and therefore expectations so when he dips in form in stands out more than most, but he not deserving of the bull**** you have written above.

My goodness, some of you really do have short memory's. If Carra had been captain in the champions league forward do you think we would have pulled 3 back? Gerrard scored the first and gave everyone belief, he set up smicer for the 2nd no? He won the penalty for the 3rd and then he proceeded to defend for his life at right-back and keep us in the game.

NO player in the world bar gerrard could have set that in motion. He is admired all over Europe for performances like that. Olypiakos, West Ham etc etc. He is worshipped in Spain and Italy because they know he is a quality leader.

However you cant expect him to save us evry single week because fact is that other players arent contributing with goals. When the team plays well and we have a battle on our hands, Gerrard is always fighting hard. Him as captain is important because of his position on the field and the rest of the team admire him for his ability and his achievements.

Some of you lot really do have short memorys. And dont gimme that bull**** about living in the past. If we get to the Champions league final this year again i know who i would like as captain. If were struggling in the final of the FA cup again this year i know that i would want Gerrard there as captain to fight back for us and get us that Trophy. Dont forget those 2 critical goals he scored in that final (wonderstrike in dying seconds)

Captains stand up for their team. Gerrard does it regularly. You lot just dont understand how special he is to us and where we would be without him. The problem at the moment is we dont have enough Gerrards in the team

I beg to the differ -V-, part of the problem is that we have a Gerrard in the team. Look how deep he drops to collect the ball when we all know he should be further up the field (he is too ball hungry), look how he calls for the ball from players when there are better options, and because it's Gerrard these players will pass to him (I know that's not completely Gerrard's fault, some of these players need to grow a pair), look at how stroppy he gets with certain players instead of encouraging them. Look at his bitching when he is not playing centre-mid even though he should be playing on the right for the good of the team.

I'm not saying he's not a positive influence, I'm not saying he is not our talisman, clearly he is both, but he does need to have a long hard look at himself.
