I love shanks and we all are truly indebted to him as he laid down the foundations for what the club represents today. He should be remembered by every red for what he did for us.

However, today is a different era to the one shanks was in. As the quote says he was a selfless man who worked towards the single minded objective of turning us into a great team - but he was very very self confident almost to the point where some of his competitors would say he was arrogant.

Coming to today where the media dominate football, where the balance of power has shifted from the club to the management and players. Are you telling me that the top managers are not arrogant and egotistical ?

Everyone of them believe they are the best and will only do things their way. Rafa is extremely self confident to the point of absurdity when it comes to team selections and tactics.

All of the managers are the same and for some people to think that Mourinho is a much more arrogant person than benitez or wenger is ignorant and wrong. He just has a bigger mouth.

agree on that - i didnt say he was the man for our club - I already said that I thought Guus Hiddink would be a great choice.

I dont like mourinho and too much has happened for him to come to anfield. Having said that I think he very much bought into the Chelsea circus that was created around the club and for a while they were all singing the same song.

Now chelsea decide they dont want a circus but a funeral will do so they go out and hire Grant.

If Mourhino did end up as our manager - and that is a very big if - i think he would adopt a much lower profile and keep things to himself. I think he has learned some lessons and we havent heard too much from him since he left chelsea.

Also dont forget that he hasnt spent a lot of money at his previous clubs - chelsea was an exception to the rule because he was expected to bring in results immediately. He has worked on tight budgets before and had success. I think he could work well with what we already have. Maybe a winger and another striker.

I want Rafa to stay. But if he was sacked, Mourinho would be my first choice. However I was led to believe that Mourinhos next job could not be a premiership one, written into his contract when he got the pay off.

Mourinho took over a side with Cech, Lampard, Terry, Robben and Makelele already there. He bought the likes of Jiri Jarosik (now plying his trade at Krylya Sovetov ), Kezman, Del Horno (for about £8m), Maniche, Ferreira (£13m!), SWP for £24m (!), Carvalho (£20m!!!), Kalou and ****ing Boulharouz.

Even speculation as to the appointment of Mourinho following the sacking of Benitez is an enormous insult to Rafa, more so given he is, actually, still in charge.

Whatever your opinion of him, and whatever his eventual merits, he does not deserve this degrading insult from his own fans.

I find the speculation as to who our next manager should be, in general, quite distasteful.
