    Fair play Keano

    Keane respects Anfield traditions

Sunderland boss Roy Keane is looking forward to his first visit to Anfield as manager when his side take on Liverpool on Saturday.
Keane was a Manchester United stalwart but has nothing but respect for one of his old club's bitterest rivals.

He told BBC Radio Newcastle: "I've been to Anfield a few times to see them play and they've always shown me respect.

"After the game we [Sunderland] played against Liverpool, Rafa Benitez and his staff were different class."

As a player and United captain Keane might have expected to come under quite a bit of stick, but Keane is adamant he has always received a fair deal from the Kop.

He said: "Obviously I had a great rivalry with them when I was a United player but I always had a great respect for Liverpool as a football club and hopefully that will never change.

"They didn't give me any better or worse receptions than a lot of players that go to Anfield, if you play for their main rivals you'll always get a bit of stick."

Always had very mixed views on Keane myself but some nice comments there to be fair to him
"Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Im not the thief who grabs your purse. Im not the guy who jacks your car. Im not down with the people who steal and hurt others. Im just a brother who fight back."

I still think he was probably the most influential player to have played in the PL.

Definetely up there with the best, he might have played for the scumbags and acted the cunt on occasions but you have to admit he was one beast of a player. Absolutely brilliant and an inspirational captain.

No probably about it, he is.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Without doubt Rafa, the more controversial the player, the more you love them. love him when he's playing for you, hate when he's playing against you as they say.
A powerful figure in the game was Keane, still is.

I admire his desire to be the best and not to accept anything other than the best from those around him. A heck of a leader while he was with the mancs, the kind of leader I sometimes wish Stevie would try to be.
