Add to that a team that has untapped potential - In my opinion thats why Hicks is so reluctant to let go.
That and also that hicks is not above using LFC as leverage for any other business proposals he is trying to get DIC interested in. Being a partner with DIC would be very prestigious for Hicks. Hopefully they would politely tell him to fuc*k off if thats the case.
"I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match.
The Future is Red!
This is the first time they have reported on a possible takeover so something must have changed. I assume it's because they have sufficient info. to run with the story. Oliver Kay and others have written previous stories not taken up by them. I think it's time to truly hope the end is nigh to one of the most painful periods in LFC history.
If they do intend to buy us they are not in it for prestige. They have enough already.
They would be in it for profit. Actually if they got things right they could turn a sizeable profit on the matter. If they get the commerical side of the club right, plus the new stadium they could flip the club for 600-700 million within 4 years. Thus a potential profit of 250 million.
They would not be in it for prestige or kudos. Profit only.
The only advantage I can see in DIC is that they would not have to borrow huge amounts to purchase the club or the stadium. Thus they would save a huge amount in interest and hence have a little more to invest in the club. But again not silly money.
Of course they want to make a profit, who is suggesting they don't. How they make that profit is unknown.
But for someone who doesn't believe they are even interested, you all of a sudden now post like they are.
So what is it, Redheart, are they interested or not?
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24
Radio Merseyside are now reporting the due diligence by DIC process is to start at Anfield. They report the same problems with Hicks but this now seems a genuine runner. Although not final the fact that due diligence is taking place means both the yanks and DIC are in negotiation mode. They would not be allowed access to the books, nor would they seek access, unless a deal was being negotiated. The end is nigh-thank christ
I might be wrong but if due diligence has begun that would mean an offer accepted in principle.
EDIT: That could be any sort of offer, shared ownership, 100% ownership, who knows, but agreement has been met with both parties IMO on some deal if due diligence has been allowed.

Where's my proof of what? That DIC are in it for profit and not glory.
The very existence and name of DIC.
So why didnt they buy into Arsenal or Newcastle then
Yes they are the investment arm of the Dubai government but as they themselves have said many times over the last 12 months there are more profitable ventures than owning a football club
Anyway wasnt it you who was saying the other day that there was no evidence of DIC being anything other than "interested" in the club
I assume you are now changing your stance??
I'm certain you will be changing your stance regarding them solely being profit orientated
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I don't disagree with what you are saying but, there is more than one way to skin a cat.
Building the club up and making a profit on it I would imagine is not their main goal and this is probably more a brand awareness exercise than anything. Which brand? Dubai. The 10s of billions being spent on attracting business to Dubai is where the real money is at and Liverpool would act as the brand awareness for them to an global market.
I would be amazed if the stadium naming didn't follow this path and the international audience from doing this along with other paths, shirt sponsorship and general discussions would make Liverpool the vehicle rather than the end product. I think initially investment wise they would weigh it up like any other business and also with the knowledge that the way the football market is going if this purchase didn't have the desired effect they could up and leave most likely in profit.
Skillz and Lecter I never said I did not believe DIC were interested. I said there was no evidence for it. And there still is not. Until due diligence is confirmed then we should still be cautious. Too many got too excited over any third rate and third hand gossip.
Why were they not interested in Arsenal. Simple all the work has been done there. The stadium is built and income streams increased. So they would have to pay top dollar for the club. Whilst much of the work is still to be done with us and hence they can get LFC relatively cheaply compared to Arsenal. Also Arsenal dont have the same world wide fan base we do. IN those terms the Mancs are by far the most supported, and then us. After us there is a big drop off to Arsenal in the scale of world wide support. This indicates we have a lot of commercial expansion to be done. Arsenal do not. So the figures dont add up.
As for Newcastle. Joke of a club. Poor finances etc etc. And there fan base is limited compared to ours. They do not have teh same world wide fan base. As a result teh commercial opportunities are limited
DIC 'close in' on George Gillett's 50% stake in Liverpool
Feb 26 2008 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo
DUBAI International Capital may own at least half of Liverpool Football Club within the next three weeks.
After months of negotiations George Gillett has reportedly indicated a willingness to sell his 50% stake in the club and a fee is believed to have been agreed.
A specialist team of bankers and solicitors have been put in place by the investment arm of the Dubai government as it awaits permission to study the club's books.
That permission is expected to be granted in the next couple of days and should everything be found to be in order, DIC could complete the deal with Gillett, who is ready to relinquish his stake having had a massive fall-out with Reds co-owner Tom Hicks.
The relationship between the two Americans has reached an all-time low and Gillett believes it is now beyond repair.
Hicks, though, is not prepared to give up his stake in Liverpool and DIC are prepared to enter into shared ownership with the Texan, in the short term at least.
Hicks has expressed a desire to retain control of the club but DIC are not interested in being a silent partner and want to start making decisions regarding the club's future as and when they complete the proposed deal with Gillett.
Hicks had tried to secure the funding to buy Gillett but with the credit crunch biting hard has been unable to do so and is now resigned to the fact he is likely to have a new partner shortly.
DIC are also looking to buy part of Hicks' stake as they look to secure a majority shareholding in the club, which they tried to buy outright last year.
Despite losing out to the Americans in February 2007, their interest has never faded and they have now successfully negotiated themselves a position which could see them take part-ownership by mid-March.
Should that happen, it would, in all likelihood, be greeted with enthusiasm by Liverpool's fans after a series of protests against Hicks and Gillett.

Hope DIC don't take ages to go over the books like last time

the above reasoning is that of a school child.
There is a huge push from Dubai to increase its worldwide prestige and profile. buying lfc is merely one arm of it and it will be done at a large initial loss. one day they might well make money from lfc - that wont be a bad thing.
A purely profit-orientated group would have a vast array of better money-making opportunities than buying lfc with all its attendent risks. they want the worldwide brand and it will be a loss leader,

no
what you said was "oh for ****s sake. DIC are NOT buying use"...before you decided you were actually an lfc supporter
well sorry son - but they ARE buying us
i suspect fans of our rival clubs wont be glad about that
lads im not trying to tell everyone what to do,but how long is this going on,3-4 months?
when the news broke back then we had the "dic only in it for the money" discussion, then when we got a bit more news we had it again, then it died down for a bit,but when some more news broke we had the discussion again.
you can basically repeat that process up till today many times over, how many times do we have to do it?
we know DIC will want to eventually make money.
we know they wont trow money at us.
and not one person has said they will,so we dont need the constant reminders that they wont.
any chance of giving this discussion a rest?
You two scousers are always yapping,I'm gonna show you some serious rapping.
