Thompsons book is embaressingl inaccurate. There's one bit were he's on about Newcastle equalising on the last day of the season (03/04 season, Houlliers and his last) and him turning to Bobby Robson and saying "you deerved that Bob" or something to that description.

As it happened Owen actually equallised for us on that day. Sorry it's not huge but its just stuff like that, that make me think- why try and write a book when you don't know what the **** your on about?

Yep, remember that one. Sat on the very front row of the Kop for the first and only time in my life. Owen equalised at the Kop end after a peach of a through-ball from Gerrard.

Can't believe Thommo wrote that muck.

Shankly and KK are the only biographies I've read. Both top class!

It used to be that they wouldn't write (have it written for them) an autobiography until after thier career was over. Lewis Hamilton released one after 1 season in f1, Rooney has released one and even had to add bits for a new release. It is a joke and people should stop buying them. I would consider buying one of these if it was written when they retired from the sport, more chance for interesting stories and wouldn't be about going shopping because there is nothing else to fill 300 pages when you're 21.

I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue

I main impression I got from the book is that he's not the sharpest knife in the draw, far from it and very naive.

I put down the instantly forgettable book thinking he's a great footballer though so good luck to him.

The best footballers autobiography I've read was Micky Quinns book, "Who ate all the pies" It's an excellent read.

Very funny in parts and I think very honest. .

I'm not quite sure why people would be expecting it to be a good read really. He is our captain and an excellent footballer, but I do really want to read his autobiography? No thanks.

I don't really care how he comes across in it, as long as he does the business on the pitch. It seems to me that Stevie doesn't have to do too much to get a slagging these days.

Yeah - I remember that glaring mistake in the book

Still, there was a lot of interesting stuff in that book IMO - the early days under Shanks, the Souness sacking incident and some of the reasoning behing Houllier's later decisions (Bowyer, Diouf/Anelka etc).
