Our Goalkeeper, central defenders, central midfielders and one wide midfielder (Babel) maybe Beni too and striker (Torres) are fine.Originally posted by fredo View PostPile of **** ?
If I've got the courage I can trawl this site in order to find an earlier quote where you've said the contrary.
ALL the other positions in my opinion are up for grabs, so thats 3 fullbacks (Arbeloa can cover), 3 wide midfielder and 3 strikers - 9 Players in total lacking the premiership winning quality.
Can't see us changing that many players any time soon though. We come not to play.

No, it's just a game to me at the end of the day. That's why.Originally posted by DJS View Post"So what" ? Is that the best we can do? Dear me.
It's not easy. It should be easy to finish 4th without any remote struggle. And it should be easy to hammer Havant, beat Barnsley and win at Luton...
You must have some seriously low standards.

fredo, I think this is why we diverge in our opinions on the manger. Your statement above would indicate to me that you don't think there is a (marked) difference in how la Liga is won as compared to the PL.Originally posted by fredo View PostHe's been successful before using his methods. I don't know why he'd change. If you started being a little more patient for a start.
Now, both yourself and Benitez might well be correct in that thinking but I really don't think so. The rotation/board/'quality of players'-stuff are important, but nonetheless side issues for me. The crux is Benitez's footballing philosophy has (*almost) never won the PL.
*You could argue that Chelsea's second title was won using similar football to us.Francis.

And when I say 'play Gerrard on the left', I mean on the left

How so? By having high expectations of our club, 18 times Leagues winners? No one said winning the league would be easy, but surely with the outlay of money in the last 5-7 years under Houllier & then Rafa, we should be at least challenging and be out of it by Dec or Jan. All there is between us and Arse / Scum, is clear blue ocean.Originally posted by fredo View PostSo what ?
Is it as easy to win the title ?
You're all like spoilt kids.
How long should fans be patient. If we played well and lost it is one thing. Our fundamental mentality approaching games is wrong. Set up shop, stop opponents fron playing, control, do not concede, drawing is ok, well chuffed if we nick a win.
I shuddrer where we would be in the league standings if Torres and Gerrard did not chip in with the goals they have.
Bottom line is we should not be right out of the title race at this point in time and struggling to finish 4th.

Honest questions - with those 9 extra players do you think 1) Benitez would use them correctly and 2) that the players would be so good that the first question wouldn't matter?Francis.

I dont think he would though skillz, that's the point.Originally posted by Skillz View PostOnly with the serious backing of someone like DIC, then again so would Rafa.
As things stand, rafa changes the team and system to the point where it's detrimental. As things stand, he plays players out of position and makes subs in a strict, rigid, machine-like manner. No changes are ever made at HT, whether they need to be or not. Babel is routinely replaced on 70 mins, regardless of how the game is going or how he is playing. Someone actually (jokingly) called the Babel sub before the game and said it'd happen on 70 mins. Everyone had a chuckle. Then, about 85 mins later, when it actually happened, everyone was staggered.
Serious backing just means he'd be playing more expensive players out of position. He believes in his (bizarre) methods beyond reasonable logic and no amount of backing would change that.
Much of the problems we (and Rafa) have are self made.

I'll leave this discussion.

Classic stuff mate.
To be fair to him, he had a point. To most of us, it's a majorly important passion in our lives. We cant just think 'so what' and stop caring.

No but it helps to put things in perspective instead of over analyzing football matches.Originally posted by DJS View Post

It takes time to build a system in a club like ours. 3 and a half years is simply not enough when you look at the quality opposition we have.
He should be given the chance to see the youngsters he's brought in (and who are doing really well for the reserves) achieve something in the first team.

They would have to go even if we would get in a new manager because they would be able to do the same to him so the ones that have turned against Rafa should be sold even if Rafa isn't our manager next season.Originally posted by DJS View PostBut if 10-15 of them have lost faith in him (and i wouldnt blame them, given his atrocious man-management skills), you'd have to sell half the squad. That'd be ridiculous.
I want those players sold and give Rafa another chance.
If Rafa would be sacked then Thomas Schaaf would be my choice to replace him.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

3 and a half years are easily good enough to not have to struggle for 4th and certainly enough to be beating Barnsley et all.Originally posted by fredo View PostNo but it helps to put things in perspective instead of over analyzing football matches.
