Nobody's suggesting he play every week mate - Carra, Agger & Skrtel will all be ahead of him in the pecking order but why bother spending money on a quality young CB who will expaxt to play a lot more when Sami is more than capable of slotting in now and then without rocking the boat?
I agree with all that and i expect that to be the case to, BUT for me i rather give a chance to someone like Hobbs/San Jose/Antwi etc, give youth a chance otherwise they will never be ready, give them a chance and they may just shine, give them a chance and if they can grasp it then it will save the club money in the long run too.

Fair point but not sure any of them are ready yet. I was against bringing in a quality CB and I am not sure any of the ones you have named fall into that category just yet but all in favour of trying out the kids. I think Sami staying for one more year will get us to a stage where Hobbs or San Jose can come into the equation - don't expect Antwi to make it though.
Said it before that I would like to see Hobbs or San Jose going on loan to a Wigan / Birmingham type club - Wenger has done this very succesfully and I think we will see very quickly if they have what it takes to play in the Premiership

Give the man a contract, still a great option, he has never been blessed with pace so the years passing will make little difference. He's been our most consistent defender this season. Why let someone leave on a free who would only strengthen a rival within the league?
I'd like to see him being given another year's contract, then allow him to leave for wherever he wants following the completion of 10 fantastic years' service.
Sami has been a great, great servant for us over the years and would still be a fantastic back-up for the centre back positions should we continue to have injuries to the likes of Agger. Yes, it may restrict one or two of the youngsters from playing the odd first team game but you can't beat experience, and having Sami in our squad gives us that.
As he's said he doesn't want a guaranteed amount of games should he stay so where's the harm in offering an experienced player another year's service? We currently have the likes of Hobbs and Antwi out on loan - if they were stuck in the reserves then maybe there's a case of not renewing his contract, but whilst the youngsters are at other clubs gaining experience of first team football I don't see the harm in giving Sami another year.
As has been said, the man has been a colussus for us and never lets us down. Players like this are rare in this era. He'd be a perfect 4th choice CB for next season. Age is no barrier, Rafa used to play the likes of Carboni at Valencia and he was no spring chicken yet did a good job. I'd give him another year and look to see if I could create a coaching position for him. He knows Liverpool through and through, he knows the way we do things. He's modest and humble, he has Liverpool's values flowing through him. We need people like him to offer continuity at the club, especially in today's turbulent times.

I'm no fan of Hyypia's present playing state, far to slow and cumbersum. But as an emergeny CB you can do no wrong. It would be hard to imagine another season like these with regards to inhuries at the back, but better to be prepared.
We also know that Rafa likes to make little changes at CB, so Hobbs et all would be potentially wasting their time at Melwood if Agger, Carra and Skrtel remained fit. Keep Sami as cover for the worst case scenario I say.
Give him a contract, he has been so influential and a rock in our defense. He may be slow now, but that's only because of his age. His reading of the game, and strength is second to none. Plus he has chipped in with a few goals to help us. He also doesn't boot it upfield like Carra does.

been outstanding this year. I'd much rather give sami an extra season, let skeletor settle in and then bring in one of the youngsters to replace him the season after.
I'd hate to see us spend ANY money on a new centre-back that'll be 4th choice for at least one more season. Plenty of other areas we could be spending the money.
I always though Hypia and Didi were model professionals and Houlliers best buys.
