Probably the best individual season anyone has had for Liverpool

Was my favourite player by far when I was growing up (I was born in 81)

I was behind him in the queue in Costa coffee about 8 years ago at Chester rail station. About 6am. I was like a ****in mute too shy to say hello or anything. Only time I have been genuinely starstruck. My wife didn't know what the **** was wrong with me

People have been comparing him unfavourably to Mane, which is crazy really. For a start Mane plays in a front 3 whereas JB played wide left in a 4, much more line-hugging. Also Barnes was able to be kicked from pillar to post with relative impunity. Imagine how many goals he'd score today on the left of our front three. Didn't have scorching pace, but what a footballer.
The first I remember who scored free kicks with regularity, the first I remember who scored long range curlers with regularity….. then he reinvented himself as a Xaviesque player in midfield

An absolute great and like you I used to watch all his goals on video

I think Gerrard lapsed into his brendan rogers replies.

Yes, it was badly phrased. But Gerrard’s aggressive ‘yeah well done, that’s exactly what I just said’ was bs too.

But it’s an interview, the format is question and answer. The interviewer making statements without a question is just crap interview technique. Should just ignore the cunt until he asks a proper question.

Far be it from me to defend Des Kelly, but I think his ‘I don’t think you had a shot on target until right at the death there?’ was in response to Gerrard saying ‘we created 3 or 4 interesting moments.’

Not exactly what Gerrard had described then.

The ‘still’ behind City, Liverpool, Chelsea bit was obviously ridiculous though.

Des might as well have said they're a bit **** compared to the top 4.

That was a very mature interview from Stevie actually. Impressive.

    “Well done Des”.

He shouldn’t have given him the high 5 at the end. He had Des on the ropes.
