I didn't realise Brad Jones had signed for Feyenoord.

Compare that to our list of LB's over the years and it's like comparing Suarez with Balotelli.Originally posted by redmike65 View PostI'd forgotten about Manquillo to be honest - the last 14 years excluding those kids who might only have played one or two senior games it's list no club could be proud of with only three players who I'd consider a proper success.
Jon Otsemobor
Steve Finnan
Josemi
Kromkamp
Antonio Barragan
Alvaro Arbeloa
Philip Degen
Glen Johnson
Javier Manquillo
Jon Flanagan
Nathaniel Clyne
TBF, most of that list is compiled from dross that Rafa signed on the cheap during his obsession with replacing Finnan. Our main first team players, Finnan to Johnson to Clyne is a decent group and others such as Flanagan and Kelly have been unfortunate with injury. Wisdom too looked like Babbel mk2 in his first few games, although it was soon apparent that he wasn't suitable for an attack minded PL team at FB.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Johnson was good for most of his time with us, his level just dropped in the last couple of years. Flanagan has been good, just unlucky with injuries, arguably his best performances have come at LB, in fairness I would say it's probably too early to judge.
You could probably add Martin Kelly and Andre Wisdom to the list but both came through the youth system and were never regulars. I don't have a problem with the list of regular RBs we've had. IMO Finnan, Arbeloa, Johnson and Clyne have been good, Josemi, Kromkamp and Degen were terrible (but were almost all bought as backups for minimal cost IIRC the 3 combined only cost £2m). While most of the others didn't play enough to be judgedLast edited by Exiled_red; 12-07-16, 12:39 PM.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Thanks for posting that. It just made my morning. I was ten at the time and remember most of it pretty well. What you have to consider is there wasn't wall to wall coverage those days so unless you went to games you had to make do with newspaper coverage or the odd highlights on match of the day. Although you would get a good half hour of the game rather than just goal coverage. I loved football back then, it's a crying shame to see what it's turned into. I really dislike football on the whole. It's been ruined. But that was great.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde
