Liverpool’s former £20m man Alberto Aquilani has been told he is free to leave Serie A strugglers Pescara in January.

The Reds signed Italian midfielder Aquilani in 2009 but he made only 18 Premier League appearances for the club before leaving after loan spells at Juventus and Milan.

He joined Pescara on a free transfer in the summer but they have not won a single game in which he has featured; he has claimed just one goal and one assist in a disastrous season.

According to a statement released by Pescara and translated by Football Italia: ‘The lad, despite training regularly and without any problems along with the group in recent days, in the morning he was in talks with Daniele Sebastiani and sporting director Luca Leone.

‘The Biancazzurri directors, after listening to the will of the lad and his agent, and backed by the Coach, have come to a mutual agreement that he won’t go to Palermo with the subsequent evaluation of a separation in the next market session.’

Christian Purslow has stepped down from his position as managing director at Chelsea Football Club, it has been confirmed.

Purslow leaves after a three-year spell at Stamford Bridge having had a spell at Liverpool, joining as “Head of Global Commercial activities”.

He negotiated key sponsorship deals for the club, including the arrival of new partners Yokohama Tyres, Delta Airlines, Hublot and Carabao.

Chairman Bruce Buck told Chelsea’s official sit: “Christian joined us in 2014 with the goal of transforming our commercial activities.

“Under his leadership some of the world’s finest brands and companies have joined us and we have announced some record-breaking sponsorships.

“Christian will continue to work with the club in a transition period until the end of the season. We are very grateful for his contribution and he will always be welcome at Stamford Bridge.”

Purslow also commented following his departure.

“I am proud of what we have all achieved, with Chelsea now enjoying great success off the field as well as on it and a commercial team in place to help cement Chelsea’s position at the top of the game.”

So what? Have you done the same? I have. I guess that makes me a cunt for solely that reason in your eyes.

People in the football industry are often singled out for cunthood. But sometimes I wonder if it's actually a reflection of those on the sidelines (virtual or otherwise) looking at themselves.
