I was about to with your post too, Ron_Mexico.

Hard to know where the team/manager goes from this. I guess the Arsenal game might tell us something - but today's was the game to alter mindsets and views.

    Again, bad day.
    Francis.

...."Any team that concedes as few goals as we concede is going to be tough to play against..." - Fernando Torres on Liverpool

And when I say 'play Gerrard on the left', I mean on the left

    A defensive mid for £18m?

he was right, if you don't believe in yourself you won't win anything. i don't see the belief against the top sides and haven't seen it for a few seasons. it's as if our players see the team sheets of the opposition and decide they don't have a chance

contrast the performances in the league against the quality we've beaten in the champions league, we've had the belief and the tenacity in those games, why can't we find it in the league????

Why do some people believe that there is more or less impossible to bribe a ref in the PL?

It clearly happens, Riley was United's payroll for years and Styles was clearly bribed in our game against Chelsea at Anfield this season.

It's so much money involved so it will happen from time to time.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Think we need to believe that someone other than SG and Torres can score!

First let me say **** ashley cole!

Very dissapointed today watching our senior players gerrard alonso and carra walking off at half time they were beaten men and it seemed they were content just to say we had a man sent off. I don't know if its just that the players aren't good enough or the manager hasn't instilled the confidence in them to actually not be afraid to go and try and play against the big teams. Players like kuyt alonso gerrard and babel don't seem to have the bravery to go out in places like old trafford and say **** this were running the show here and putting you on the backfoot! Torres is ok up front on his own against poor teams but he needs another striker with him when he playing against good defenders! We can match up with them ok and keep it tight against them and enjoy some possesion but we never look like we can carve them open...there still remains a bit to go if we are to challenge!

I suspect we'll always find an excuse for our performances in the league when it matters.

Perhaps we'll forever raise our history and anthem to try to hide from contrary opinions.

I guess the web is too democratic for something as subjective as this beautiful game.

                3. Agree, can't help think that the rules are being re-interpreted in the light of the cole incident.
                4. Disagree. Even the best players aren't as good against the best teams. What did Ronaldo do from open play. NOTHING.

the only positive for me is that arsenal are falling apart. they have even less depth than we do and their injury situation isn't helping. plus they are actually in the title race and have to concentrate/are distracted by that

we'll rebound the champions league imo, it's all we really have to play for, and we usually rise to the occasion in that competition at least

it was indeed a bad day, i expected to see our lads take it to them today, it just didn't happen

An upgrade / evolution in that position will have us better prepared. Maybe not next year, but the year after!!!!!!!!!!!1

True, we are clearly lacking in attacking talent, but that doesn't excuse bottling it like we have against the scum of late

The difference being that the majority of ball was coming through the right hand side, seemed to be influenced my Gerrard playing more that side to me. Babel rarely got the ball but when he did he took players on. Kuyt on the other hand offered next to nothing except hard work.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

I wouldn't under estimate that, though.

In a game like today's we needed all the players to be as honest as Kuyt. It didn't happen and Gerrard et al can have a good, long look at themselves this evening and figure if they put as much into the game as our marathon man did.

TBH, I don't think we bottled it, I think their 11 outplayed our 10. Simple as.

Do you think if masher hadn't been sent off it would have made much of a difference? It gave them an advantage sure, but to me there is a fatal flaw in our mentality and approach to these games that needs to be overcome
