was in athens too mate. having been in rome in 1977 and 84 your statement and viewpoint made me laugh. athens was like a trip to butlins compared with the first final i attended. There was essentially NO trouble if you put it next to the way things were back then - just a lot more cameras and journalists and a different level of expectation among supporters who have seen little of pre heysel/taylor report football.

Remind me, how many people died in athens, how many injured? I know someone with the scar fromthe stitches he needed in 1977

perspective mate, come on. there were more people fighting outside goodison park on rooneys first game back there. would you be scared to go??? Is liverpool a city at risk of mass bloodshed next time we play the mancs??

The stadium will probably be fine.

The streets, the airports and even on the planes going and coming back run a very very hugh risk of brawls. Lets not forget, of both sides will be travelling from the same airports, booking onto the same flights. Do you think they can be trusted to all behave? I dont think so. It only takes one for a lot of people to get involved. It being in moscow just adds a greater risk. If the final was at wembely there would still be violence. Its not like when we go there or they come here because someone is out numbered. In moscow it will be an even split of thousands. The police wont be everywhere. It'd be folly to believe there would be no trouble.

Can we open this thread again If/When we actually get there.

It is by no means a done deal yet.

Nope - the reason I'm not going if it's the Mancs is that it's over £1000 in the year that my firstborn will be, er, born, weighed up against the fact that it will probably be a nightmare. I do think there will be trouble if we get the Mancs, and don't fancy paying all that money to be dodging my way around the city.

You almost seem to be glorying in the amount of violence and death that you've witnessed at football matches in the past in this thread. Personally, I find that sad. You also used some nice quoting out of context to try and make me out make out as some naive newbie to the game. I notice you didn't quote the bit where I said "You are right that things are not as bad as they were in the 70s and 80s, but they are certainly much much worse than they were in the 90s." That sentence would have completely changed the context of most of your replies

Whatever your previous experiences though, I can't believe your take on Athens. I'm not on about fighting between fans, I'm on about dangerous overcrowding, crap treatment, tear-gassing and baton charging of fans by the police etc. If you think that Athens was like going to Butlins, then your experience was certainly different to mine, and everyone else that I went to the game with or spoke about it afterwards with. It is the second worst game I've been to

Booked flights and hostel for 7 of us on a stag do today. Bonus if Liverpool get to the final.

Ray, do you know the score with regard to Hostels and visa's. The place we are staying has a facility to order a Letter of Invitation on their website for £18 does that sound right and do you know if it will cover the travel voucher and acceptance confirmation?

                    Cheers

Depends on what type of invite they are able to provide. If it's a tourist visa then usually your confirmation of booked and fully paid hotel accommodation, plus proof of return tickets (your Tourist Voucher) is enough for you to go to the Russian Embassy and apply for the T.V.

if it's an invite for up to 3months single/double entry then you will not need any proof of accommodation or tickets.. This type of invite is arranged through an accredited company here and a telex with the invite number is sent directly to the Embassy. All that is needed is the number of the invite.

Best contact them to find out what is what regarding the invite..But 18 pounds is a good price for an official invite. (I've paid much more)

Right as regards Hostels.. I know that these are now available here in places, but I'll be honest I wouldn't stay in one.. Better off with a cheap hotel.. I can have a look at a few in the centre of Moscow and get back to you with some ideas (let me know what sort of budget your willing to spend?)

Flight prices are already ridiculously steep. I dread to think what they'll be like in a month's time.

I'll wait until I see some of the lads at the game on Tuesday night. If we qualify and everyone else is prepared to take a gamble, I'll book.

I'd wait until after the 2nd leg. This isn't over yet.

What is the cheapest price at the mo'?
