Just to add some balance - here are some other Roeder quotes from football365:
Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder felt his side deserved better than to be trailing 1-0 at half-time but admitted Alonso's strike was a special one.
He said: "I don't think fans realise the technique or how difficult striking a ball like that is.
"It was a brilliant bit of skill but having said that if Steve hadn't slipped it would have been a great long pass into his arms."
He added: "We were disappointed to come in a goal down at half-time.
"For all Liverpool's pressure I thought we defended well but their goal was a shocking one for us tactically.""The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I agree with you on the above.Originally posted by dwwI really don't get why people have such a desire to see clubs in financial ruin. I'm not a fan of the chairman at Newcastle but I have nothing against the fans or club.
I think Roeder did a great job of making a team last season but has suffered from not buying any central midfielders. I guess Duff was to good a deal to turn down and successive managers have failed to bring in a Shearer understudy/replacement so bringing in a forward was an equal necessity. I hope they do okay this season, but I think other teams in the league have improved a lot and so I can see them struggling again.
I also do not like seeing clubs in Financial Ruin, and do think that Roeder has pretty well at the barcodes.
As far as Newcastle not being a big club, well personally I think they are.
They may not be playing well, and probably have not been for quite some time, but their supporters full the ground week in week out, and like it or not, Newcastle do have a history.
They are not as big as us, or some other clubs, but not winning things does not mean that they are not big. Conversely I don't think Chelsea are a big club, but they have been winning things...... Their games are rarely sold out, and their supporters are amongst the worst i have ever come across.

Agree!Originally posted by ShaggyAlonsoOf what?
Every club has history but when we taunt the likes of Chelsea, we mean a history of winning things. When have Newcastle ever done that?
How can people say that Newcastle United has a history?! The last BIG silverware they won was way back in 1955 (FA CUP)... However, they've won more then CSKA London.
And to think that Everton fans are depressed because they won **** in the last 10 or so years... What about Geordies?! I thought they would do a mass suicide by now...
Just look at their honours page: Click here! ...

After we were ahead, our fans were singing "Where's your ****ing Shearer now?"Originally posted by JRGThe Geordies were singing the Bellmay was **** scared of Shearer ( I think).
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

If your club is Newcastle's size, then it certainly is. But if, let's say Wigan or Watford qualified, I think it would be quite in order for them to have it on their honours list.Originally posted by animal magicits pretty desperate to put champions league qualification on your honours listJust when I discovered the meaning of life, they changed it
