Compare the manager's comments after tonight's game....
Sure they can fill a stadium most games with a load of Gerodies.
This is a misnomer. Back in the mid eighties they struggled to get a home gate of over 15,000. I think that's a more fair reflection of the clubs size.
I suspect the reason that they get 50,000 most homes games goes back to the Keegan era, when they were competitive. That probably attracted a prawn sandwich mob of sorts. Just look at the "massive" Leeds United now with the ground half full, that was Newcastle 20 years ago.
Why are we sprouting about Roeder's comments as if we cared about him and his image. Let other managers speak ****e if they wanted to. If we had to start a thread with comments from Mourinho AW, and SAF everytime they speak bollocks then est1892's forums wouldd be overloaded.
How can people say that Newcastle United has a history?! The last BIG silverware they won was way back in 1955 (FA CUP)... However, they've won more then CSKA London.
Last thing they won was the 1968 Fairs Cup. What ever the **** the Fairs Cup is?

Every club has history but when we taunt the likes of Chelsea, we mean a history of winning things. When have Newcastle ever done that?
I'm not sure that I'm a big fan of this we have history but you don't crap. I have respect for any team which has generated it's funds from football or whose financing comes from a genuine fan. This means I don't respect Chelsea as much as other teams but I kn ow they have some genuine fans who have been there in the bad times aswell. Pretty much all English teams have a rich history of stories, great players etc. It is arrogant and quite unpleasent the attitude that some supporters of LFC show to the fans of other teams.
I love the Liverpool traditions of winning and having a certain class etc. but I don't see why we need to belittle the achievements/history of other clubs.
For the record I think the big club debate is a bit pointless. Newcastle are clearly a well supported but traditionally poorly run team, who as a consequence have not had the success that the size of their local support might expect. It is pretty obvious that they are a big club in the context of this country as they can attract good players and have some of the largest crowds in the country, however they are pretty much unknown and hardly well supported abroad and thus couldn't really call themselves a big club in Europe.
