If Rafa truly believed that we would accept it...do you think he would sell Gerrard?

Not so, I was interested about what people thought of the topic. I tried to avoid the accusations that have followed by not giving an opinion, though it doesn't seem to have worked.

So you didn't want a discussion?

Just interested in what people thought, that's all?

Ignore the negative stuff mate and discuss your thread.

I'd be disappointed if he went but thats football and those are the decisions that Rafa has to make.

In 1996 Fergie sold Ince, Hughes and Kanchelskis and replaced them with reserves. There was an outcry then and sadly, the *******s won the double.

If it is a footballing decision and the money was too good to turn down and the team could be improved no end, the fans would accept that.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

I hate that. Another received wisdom in the media. Even Souness said it the other day.

Do people seriously believe Benitez blunders through a season, through training sessions, without any idea of what he's doing? That he just "stumbles across" formations and partnerships? WTF?

This is exactly the same system with which he was synonymous at Valencia. This season is not the first time we've seen Gerrard played off a striker. He played there in a European Cup final FFS.

          "Stumbled across it" my anoos.

Managers stumble across things when injuries/suspensions force a change and the change turns out to be really successful.
It's not the case here, Rafa had 3 strikers to choose from but he decided to go with just one up top with Gerrard behind.

There was no stumbling at all, it was a tactical masterstroke

i dont think he would, not for a few years anyway, he is a very important player for us. and rafa has said he is still improving. would be a risk imo to try to replace a player like him

it has been obvious from day one that Rafa preferred a lone striker system with attackers bombing in from all sides. It is only this season that Rafa has had the personnel to play this system effectively. We tried it in his first season with Baros playing the lone striker at times, second season with Crouch but we did not have the pace or the guile to effectively play this system.

So Rafa didn't really changed the tactics because of my advice then No one really cares what I say anymore even when I moaned about the 4-2-3-1 system with Gerrard behind Torres the whole season from day one.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

The only way SG leaves is if he decides it himself. You could not replace him, there isn't another like him. 19 goals and 16 assists who else is going to provide you with that? For the record even Ronaldo only has 4 assists.

I think the talk of Gerrard leaving has reached it`s finale.if he was gonna leave he`d have gone to Chelsea by now. He`s scouse through and through and will end his career at ours.
