I don't see what we can do about this anyway but surely the families of the 96 are the one's who's opinion count most on this issue, if the HJC have no problem with it then I don't see what more needs to be said.
I don't know one person who's been swayed by a football sponsor or billboard, other than in a negative way! (Vodafone, etc...).

But yes, you're right - theirs is the opinion that matters.

Is there anyway to draw this to their attention?

Liverpool Football Club - Proudly sponsored by Carlsberg

The site where 96 of our fellow fans were killed - Proudly sponsored by Carlsberg

They could have sponsored any of the other stands at SWFC, they could have sponsored a suite, taken out extra hoardings, sponsored the shirts, or anything else. No-one is arguing that they should have no connection with SWFC, or that SWFC shouldn't be able to deal with them. But in my opinion Carlsberg should know better than to sponsor that stand given their long association with us.
Maybe they offered to convert it to allseater because of their contacts with us, renaming it the memorial stand would have been better tho.

Apologies if this has been raised before, this is my first post on here, and I've skimmed the board but can see nothing on it.

I'm a season ticket holder at Anfield, but I live in Sheffield at the minute due to work. My missus is from Sheffield and her dad is a Wednesday fan. As he can't use his season ticket again this year, he offered it to me, so I went along to the game against Plymouth on Monday.

Now, during the game, I looked over to the Leppings Lane stand - it was weird being there the day before the anniversary. The thing is, I noticed that the stand is now sponsored.....by Carlsberg. The Leppings Lane end of the ground is now called the Carlsberg stand, and is proudly sponsored by Sheffield Wednesday's official beer.

I can't decide if that's appropriate, or even decent, of a company that we've had an association with for so long. Especially one that trries to foster good relations with the fans.

Thoughts? I've got a picture, and I'm willing to write to the club and Carlsberg about it, I'm just not sure if I should. I'm trying to think what the club would have said if Carlsberg had approached them about it first. Would they have said anything?

You really are clutching at straws here mate. If you said the stand was sponsered by 'The Sun' then maybe, but Carlsberg for ****s sake!!

What's the Sun got to do with it? The unease is due to it being sponsored by our main club sponsors.

Thanks for the eloquent and polite response, but I actually think I do have a point, and to fit it in with your response....

I'd expect the S*n to sponsor the stand, I wouldn't expect our main sponsor to entertain the idea.

Excuse me being difficult, but why do you have the strapline "Save LFC: Don't drink Carlsberg"?

I know you've had it for some time, so it is obviously unrelated to this issue, but I am surprised at how relaxed you are about it.

Can you explain to some-one who is confused?
                Really?

Sure. The sig was in response to a thread that suggested a boycott of Carlsberg in order to hit Hick's pocket and force it out. The was mocking this as stupid. Not clever, but there you go.
