I wouldn't have thought Sheffield Wednesday would consult with Liverpool or HJC every time something needs changing at that side of the ground.

I'm not sure how I stand on this to be honest. You would have thought that Carlsberg would have had more sense given their sponsorship with us though.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

I don't see an issue, other than a very tenuous link involving sponsors being some kind of club representitive or moral being.

When I use the term 'club' I mean LFC.

Lest anyone forget, Hillsborough, as with most football grounds, has four stands.
I'm not sure it is a big problem or slap in the face, but I agree they could have easily sponsored one of the other stands. That way, there would be no problem at all.

An image they've sought for themselves.

I don't buy the programme anymore, but when I did, I can remember it including a Carlsberg fans page, with competitions, fan stories and photos. 'Best supporters in the world' or some such sh!te.

Does that not have more to do with their catchphrase than LFC though mate? I personally don't think they've sought that image for themselves but anything to do with Hillsborough and the 96 should be dealt with respectfully.

To me it's very similar to bocotting the News of The World etc, I'm happy to go along with the thoughts of families of the 96.

I included the page's name to jog any hazy memories people may have had. As I say, I don't buy the programme anymore, so I don't know if that page is still printed.

I'm trying to point out that Carlsberg are keen to keep the fans involved with their sponsorship/relationship to the club in some instances. On that basis, I'd expect that relationship to have had some bearing on deciding to sponsor the Leppings Lane Stand.

I don't like it at all.

Liverpool Football Club - Proudly sponsored by Carlsberg

The site where 96 of our fellow fans were killed - Proudly sponsored by Carlsberg

They could have sponsored any of the other stands at SWFC, they could have sponsored a suite, taken out extra hoardings, sponsored the shirts, or anything else. No-one is arguing that they should have no connection with SWFC, or that SWFC shouldn't be able to deal with them. But in my opinion Carlsberg should know better than to sponsor that stand given their long association with us.

Carlsberg's catchphrase is 'probably the best lager in the world,' so no matter what team they sponsored they would include best fans, best team etc etc in their in house advertising. I don't really think that constitutes an attempt by Carlsberg to involve the fans at all, just a way of making their punchline applicable to the club when our fans are reading their marketing. Just like sponsoring the Leppings Lane end is trying to make money for their firm.

I understand your points, but this goes beyond the strapline of a couple of pages in the programme.

Carlsberg have deffinitely been very accomodating of our fans in the past, throwing parties etc. They love being associated with us.

"Also, we have great respect for Liverpool FC's new owners and are looking forward to continue our good relationship with the club and further add to the strong bond that has developed with the club, players, staff and fans over the years."

Yeah, but it's sycophantic garbage, and everyone who's it. Our name, your shirt=more beer sold. Our name, SWFC stand=more beer sold.

That's all it's about from Carlsberg's point of view.

That said I have to agree that it isn't ideal for our sponsor to also sponsor the Leppings Lane.

That doesn't make them unaccountable for their own statements.

By the way, Carlsberg have exclusivity at Hillsborough, so I don't see what difference it would make to beer sales.

Just basic advertising principles, you see the name around more and sales figures go up.

I don't see what we can do about this anyway but surely the families of the 96 are the one's who's opinion count most on this issue, if the HJC have no problem with it then I don't see what more needs to be said.

Just incase you didn't see - the 'mutual respect' comment is Parry, not Carlsberg!
