He hasn't been 'fantastic'. He's been decent recently and had a few good performances in terms of effort and workrate. The usual, he'll never be fantastic. Deserved of a squad position IMO but most definitely not a regular starting pace, he can only give so much and last night was a reminder of his lack of ability in terms of making anything happen with any quality. His touch for a forward player is very disappointing for the most part.

The ownership thing needs sorting out one way or the other, and the sooner the better.

Don't care about signings at this point, that's the managers job.

But out of the current squad the following need to be axed:

Riise - turned from a alehouse player into a pub player. The anti-cinderella.
        Voronin - offers nothing.
Kuyt - be honest. If we're genuinely going for the league title he isn't good enough, is he? And if you think he is you've got no ****ing clue. Watch Rafa bin him this summer.
Pennant - ****ing ****house player. A complete clown.
Kewell - gone already, thank ****, another Ged disaster.
Finnan - perhaps harsh, but the vogue of the position toward athleticism and power means he comes up short.
Alonso - Has regressed the last 2 years, and it's not on. He bottled it last night in possession. Instead of trying the incisive pass, he kept it simple. He's in the team as our playmaker. Time to move on.
Crouch - I'd keep him, but he'll go.
Itandje - probably back to France.

We need Rafa to have a 2007-esque transfer market. A repeat of 2006 and we're going nowhere.

I think its time for Rafa to get nasty and axe a hell of a lot of players in the summer.

I'd love to see the squad trimmed down but the quality of the players improved. If you look at our strikers for example; Torres, Crouch, Kuyt and Voronin. Assuming Torres is untouchable, why not just have three strikers but two who are better than Crouch, Kuyt and Voronin plus Torres? It beggars belief when we have played with one up front for the past three months.

With the exception of about six or seven players, I wouldn't be sorry to see any of them leave.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

Give it a ****ing rest. Dirk Kuyt is a good player to have around and he doesnt brilliantly for us

The impact on the dressing room of having a player around with total commitment like Kuyt cannot be underestimated. He's had a seriously hard time this season both on and off the pitch, but the way he's fought through his bad form to produce some genuinely big performances shows that the guy has the mettle of a Liverpool player. Its great to have skill players around who can produce a moment of magic out of nothing, but we also need players who will stand up to be counted when the chips are down and from whom we can guarantee 110% effort from the red shirt in every single game.

I'm not sure Kuyt would be in my ideal Liverpool first team at all, but he would absolutely be in my squad, no question whatsoever, and he deserves far more respect for his attitude and application than a considerable quantity of our squad do, and in fact the vast majority of all modern footballers. There is no way Rafa will get rid in the summer, and I will be delighted the first time I see Kuyt step out in the red shirt next season.

If that makes me clueless, so be it.

I would say that an attacking player needs these attributes if we are to challenge for the title.

I would expect our defenders to have these attributes. It helps if our attacking players have this but it is not essential, as long as they are not complete bottlers of course.

I'm not sure Kuyt would be in my ideal Liverpool first team at all, but he would absolutely be in my squad.

£9m - £10m is a bit steep for a squad player who will not improve in the future. He did reasonably well in his first season, but he has got worse. Everyone loves his work ethic and attitude, but he was bought to put the ball in the net and he doesn't do it. He's fine for games where we are up against it, but those games are rare. In his position we need magic

Well, when you say he hasn't done it, he was our top scorer in the CL. I'll admit his finishing has not been of quite the standard we would like, but I really think he has shown the last few months that he can make up for that with other aspects of his play. Of course we need forward players with skill and the ability to conjure something out of nothing, but we also need players who genuinely appreciate what playing for our great club is all about, who will never give up and will bleed for the team. I just think its easy enough for people on here to write that off saying "hard work is all well and good but...", were in fact that's an attribute that's far less common in modern football that it should be, and far more important than we give credit for.

He isn't responsible for the size of his own transfer fee. Given the loss of form he suffered earlier in the season it would have been very easy for the lad to have hidden, instead he did anything but that, and actually produced some fantastic performances that could have taken us to another European Cup final. If we'd got there those performances would have paid his fee back and more, as it is they maybe did so anyway. We do indeed need magic in his position.. Torres, Babel and ANother should be able to produce that in spades, but there will always be a place and time in football for some genuinely honest hard graft, and there is no better player to provide that.

As I said above, next season he wouldn't be in my ideal first eleven. But he most certainly deserves a place in the squad, and we have far worse & less committed players that should be moved on well before he ever is.

I'm sorry, but for me he just doesn't offer enough. And the players we get rid of will always come down to the fees being offered and the possibility of bringing in better players.

And it would also depend on whether or not Kuyt would want to be a squad player. He is out the Dutch squad as it is, he may get back in but he wont stay there as a reserve at Liverpool.

I could not see us being offered anymore than £6m. And that would be if we were lucky. I think that in itself explains how well Kuyt has done at Liverpool.

For a player that was descibed as 20/20 it is a big shame. To think Martin Jol tried to sign Kuyt ahead of Berbatov and was genuinley getted to miss out on his signing!

rafa has himself said we are 4 quality players away from having a squad capable of winning the league. going by that i only see 4 players leaving as we know how much he loves his big squads. the 4 i see leaving are:

crouch ( rafa wont want him to go but crouch will want to leave in order to get regualr football)
riise (he has lost that something you need to play for the top teams - he also will want the regular football he isnt going to get with us)
kewell (never going to be fit and rafa seems to have lost patience with him)
carson (again he just wants to play and he wont get ahead of reina so will ask to leave)

obvioulsy there are other players (pennant, voronin, itandje, leto) who are not good enough for lfc, but they know this and will not want to leave as they are picking up big wages here and can say "i play for lfc you know". that and the fact rafa appears to like pennant tells me he'll still be here next year.

replace these 4 with players in the same position (perhaps silva or joaquin, villa or berbatov, harper and rafinha or alves) and we will be up there at the top of the EPL next year.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

                        Le Tallec

Maybe Guthrie & one of Finnan, Aurelio & Arbeloa

                        Coming in we need

2 strikers (1 top quality goalscoring striker)
                        an Att MF (No.10 type)
                        Left Winger
                        Left Back

Maybe a right back too. Also quality replacement for Alonso if he goes.
IMO Crouch and Pennant are good enough for the squad as long as we bring in players for the first team that ensure they are "squad" players only.

Against the run of the mill teams they can add value. Should never be used against the top 4 / CL teams though.

Would like to see the following off the pay roll ASAP

Pennant – grinning a$$hole b4 he came on – plays blinders for the reserves which is about his true level
Finnan – sad to say no longer the player he was – best right back in the PL until this season – injuries seem to have taken their toll imo
Benayoun – simply ordinary – we need extraordinary in that position
Riise – sick of him – offers little defensively and even less going forward
Carson – overrated and will never displace Reina – good cash cow opportunity
Kewell - too injury prone and stood on the ball vs. Ac Milan in the CL final last year – get rid!
Aurelio – too lightweight and another sick note – a peasant’s wing back
Kuyt – is a battler I will give him that, but c’mon!
                          Substance > Style

I think Crouch should go for his own good, i think he's bean treated really badly at this club and needs to be playing regularly to be considered for england - shame I think he is quality and i can't understand why he hasn't been given more chances.

Rick Parry should be the first one out the door.

                                that'll only make it harder.
