Needs to be another £80m for us to have a squad even close to Scum & the Chavs tho. Scum were already miles ahead of us last summer & outspent us on top of that.
Another £80m? That'll take our spending under Rafa to nearly £250m.

Did the squad GH left behind need a quarter of a billion spent on it?

Tell you what lads. United success over the years is more to do with our incompetence than their great business model. If we would have had a chairman who knew the score back in 1992 (when moores took over). I think we would be the biggest club in the world now. Back in 92 we were regarded as the best and has moores got anybody but Souness who more or less sold off our squad we would have hit no 19 around 93 or 94

Not that I buy this discounting net spending nonsense, but even were I too, then there is argument to say "yes" given that the Chavs have spent that with little recoup since then & started off with a squad better if anything than ours when Rafa came in.
            3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I have the sad feeling they (the scum) will equal and perhaps overtake our record but it will be a temporary blow only. The Liverpool revival shall continue and we will surge to domestic and global football domination under the King of Spain, our gangsta looking manager, Rafa.
              JUST PLAY THE F***ING NOTE!!!

its money over time, thats the fundamental difference.

its not as if he was thrown 100 mill and spent it,

he had to buy some amount of players on a budget. he needed wingers and strikers and only had 20 mill etc

last year was the first that he had a decent amount to spend and i would say he spent it quite well. if he had 200 mill to spend, do you think he would of bought pennant for 6 m? etc.

                i think not.

It just seems like as a club, Liverpool have gone backwards this season and there is nothing to suggest its going to get any better. Next season, its innevitable that there wont be a big 4, just Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd.

                      is this a wind up?

squad better, torres signing, champions league semi again, another good centre half.

imagine this season if all the off teh field **** hadnt happened,

imagine if agger had been fit

imagine if risse hadnt have scored that own goal

we are unlucky not to be in another european final

not the season i hoped for in the league, but saying we went backwards is comical

                        What I was thinking.

Not sure how you can say we've gone backwards when we're 10 points closer to the top than we were last year.

Sad that a Scummer has no mates to celebrate winning the title with & instead feels compelled to come to Liverpool boards. What a loser.

Haha, i'm not a Man Utd fan, i'm not a 'proper' Liverpool fan either, i follow non-league (which is sad), Liverpool are my choice of team to watch when i can though.

Problem is, whilst i look out for Liverpools results and get to about a game a year, i dont hate Man Utd (or Arsenal, Chelsea) though.

I'm just saying it as I see it, with all the backroom stuff Liverpool could be in danger of falling behind the other 3. Having said that, there are some positives to be taken from this season, inparticular Torres, who will be even better next year.

Nothing sad about non league football.

Whislt Liverpool have off the field differences to sort out, by all accounts that should be done soon, Arsenal, one of the teams you think will pull away, are facing having thier team raided for players setting them back again. Their failure to win anything again will cost them. Whilst they have finished above us this year, I see Arsenal as a 'selling' club were as Liverpool, Utd and Chelsea are not. Its them that will break away at the top.

yup, the quality that they have running throughout their squads really sets them apart from us. They bought players last year that they didnt really need and could afford to bed in/rotate/rest as they had superb players in their places.
