I think Alves was more like £13.5 (after we had already agreed a £12m fee). I agree with the sentiment, we should have just swallowed our pride and paid it, but I'm sure for £8m we would have had him bought and gift-wrapped straight away.

In any case, I hope this turns out to be a good signing. He's still only very young and Rafa speaks pretty highly of him. Means we could use the money we would have spent on Rafinha (or whoever) and put it towards some proven quality in the attacking positions.

Scum and Chelski have about £150 million debt between them - would you like to have that ammount of debt associated with Liverpool also?

Since you've put it that way, I have heard of him , and it wasn't any good to be honest. A Dortmund fan said he was plain simple ****e, no way near Liverpool level...
But still, I agree that we have to wait for his first performance in the red shirt and then judge him... he has proved he knows his way around the internet, what if he's reading this topic right now, full of people slating him before he even played his first minute in our kit.

I do think people should get off the clubs back for the failure to sign Alves it sounded to me that when ever we 'agreed' the fee the president would suddenly bump the price up. So no wonder nothing came of it - you have to ask yourself why Chelsea didn't sign him last summer when it looked nailed on? No doubt the Sevilla President was playing a similar game.
