    The ‘Cult’ of Kuyt?

Is it just me, or does anyone else take umbrage at Dirk being called a new ‘cult hero’ for the Kop? I’ve read numerous articles about the game on Saturday – even the Daily Post used the term – and most of them refer to our Dutchman as a ‘cult hero’.

Does anyone else hate that phrase being used for a genuinely talented player, or am I just becoming a grumpy old *******? A ‘cult’ per se, at least to me, means something offbeat and not of great talent – surely Diggler can’t be bracketed with this term? A ‘Cult’ hero for me would be Erik Meijer, Titi Camara or Ronnie Rosental – decent players who wore their heart on their sleeves and would die for the cause, but would never set the world alight. Derided by opposition fans but loved by us. I don’t think even the most acerbic Evertonian could turn around and question the talents of our Dirk.

I honestly can’t see an aspect of Dirk that isn’t perfectly suited to the Premiership – he just looks immense in every aspect (although the last person I said that about was Paddy Berger when he pretended he could head and tackle at the start of his Liverpool career…). Further to all that he seems a genuinely nice guy, a team player, a generous charitable person and appreciates the crowd and teammates alike.

It’s the same as Robbie at times – I heard him called a cult hero. He isn’t, or ever has been, a cult hero – he’s a genius and a legend. Dirk is certainly starting as if the terminology of kop hero or legend could be allied to him in years to come, but he’s no cult!

    HOT CANCER.

That brings back great memories of Paddy Berger when he first joined - scored some cracking goals against Leicester and Chelsea at the start of his career with us....

We need a Czech in our squad!

I know what you mean but I fear you may be right - you are possibly just becoming a grumpy old *******.

      Let it go.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

You are probably correct Neil, I’m just a grumpy old ****. A grumpy old **** with a monumental hangover…

I just love the look of Diggler, he looks like an amazing player and its just a pity he’s 26 already!! The ‘cult’ term just gets on my tits!

Now here is a 'cult' player for you - Vladimir Smicer! Loved by everyone but lets face it...he was **** for 99% of his Liverpool career!

I never loved him. I depised the little runt. That goal apart.

I agree, he looks a Kuyt above (sorry, couldn't resist it, I should have done I know) our other strikers. Still, early days an' all.

Sorry to hear about the hangover but you brought it on yourself.

Talking of hangovers, here comes Polo.

It's a passing phase. I have a feeling he will more likely be remembered as a genuine legend by the time he's done playing for us.

Kuyt is a cult hero in the eyes of the fat one.

If he keeps this up Kuyt will be a legend IMO, far better then the hackneyed phrase of cult hero. I also think his partnership withh Bellamy will go down in LFC annals as legendary.
