Does Rafa need a Director of Football?

Personally I think Rafa has far too much to do and could do with appointing a Director of Football.

It is clear Rafa needs some guidance on potential signings and given our limited budget we really need to ensure we don't piss money up the wall and spend what we have like drunken sailors (18m on Barry - WTF??!!).

Whilst Rafa is clearly very knowledgable, all the top clubs in Europe have a Director of Football who advises and manages the transfers.

I personally think we could do with someone like this - someone whose judgement Rafa can trust and is prepared to listen to.

I agree but I think Rafa would be the reason we don't have one. He is a very stubborn character who clearly likes to hold as many cards as possible and would not happily power share as has been demonstrated previously.

He does have a lot to look after but I think that's what Rafa has always wanted, complete control.

I also think that when a manager has complete control over everything he wants to, and the power to directly delegate any functions he doesn't, then the club works in harmony. Look at Wenger and Fergie, both have full power, both run the club well. I don't think Rafa is any different.

i think he just needs money

I think his chief scout eduardo macia is performing that role to some extent as marca ran a piece about him a few days back.

They basically said how he was the guiding influence on some of our most recent acquisitions.

Otherwise i quite fancy david pleat.

Think you might be over reacting since all we know is from paper talk and internet rumours. Was the same nonsense last season with people going overboard with every internet rumour.

aye - get dennis wise in
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

              Job Title : Chief Scout

              Date of Birth : 07/05/1974
              Birthplace : Valencia

              STAFF PROFILE
Eduardo Macia joined the Liverpool backroom team in the summer of 2006 after deciding to leave Valencia to take up a new challenge at Anfield.

Eduardo is chief scout for the club and is responsible for scouring the footballing world for potential Liverpool players.

He worked with Rafael Benitez at Valencia, during which time he held the posts of technical advisor and sporting director.

"I look for players all over the world," he said. "We are always watching videos, going to games and talking to our scouts. It's a very busy job but Liverpool is a fantastic club and I'm delighted to be here.

"What do I look for in a player? He has to be competitive and aggressive. I don't care what his name is or what reputation he has, it's how he acquits himself on the field which is the most important thing."

Macia does this job for Rafa. Paco Herrera did it before him I think.

Maybe, but our strategy seems a bit shoddy IMo. We are not conducting our business in teh correct manner and have missed out on some major world class players in Rafa's reign.

As the bitters say, every little helps!!

It's hereditary, it ain't just in Rafa's reign we've missed out on top targets, it's the Liverpool way.
                    We don't need a director.
We need to get rid of our chief negotiator, Parry, and the owners, twit and ****.

I raised this issue a few months back, and it was not well recieved. I still think we should get a sporting director, not only to help out raff but also to help out the other directors (aka Parry). If we wan't LFC to be well run, Parry shoulden't be in charge of negotiating transfers next to his other responsibilities...

It would help the whole setup if we got one. Rafa of course should still get the last say in transfers. But it would be good to have someone close to him to negotiate fees, contracts etc,

We need Parry to stay to help Moores against Hicks - nothing more - and the minute DIC (or someone else) takes over, then Parry should be out and gone.

It is funny though, that it seems like the Scum and Chelski have far more people with defined areas of work - whereas the list of workareas all seems to be somewhere inbetween Rafa and Parry at LFC.

Is that Rafa's fault or Parrys that we have missed out on top class players? Rafa has wanted to sign some of the best players in the world but wasnt backed for them or they havent been for sale.

Just because you have Director of Football doesn't mean you won't spend like drunken sailors (Darren Bent for 17m).
