Agree, but consultation should reduce the risk of such cock-ups.

It is quite frustrating in that we are so close to something good - seeing our team take dynamic shape with players like Babel, Torres and Mascher, and then to sign players like Degen who cannot make the awful Swiss team and do our best to splash 15m+ on Barry is just like 1 step forward 2 steps back.

I do think I am being impatient and hope that come the start of the season there will be more genuine quality in the team.

The director of football role may be common on the Continent, but there is no evidence it works here and at clubs like Spurs it has been a disaster. When somebody other than the manager can start making decisions on who a club buys and sells it will end in tears.

Have some faith in Rafa. He knows who we need and in what positions.

I would think Gareth Barry for 17 million is the midfield equivilent to Bent for 17 million.

I read some former manager say that clubs appoint directors of football to act as a buffer between a manager and the board and blur the lines of communication or because they don't trust the manager. To be honest with the suituation as it is at the moment that's the last thing we need!
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I'd love to see Kenny Dalglish brought in as Director of Football, someone who definately has the clubs best interest at heart.
We managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

Rafa does not need anyone to tell him who to buy.

He'd quit anyhow if one was brought in.

i dont think so to be honest.... kenny has been out of the game too long. He didnt exactly do an amazing job as DoF at celtic either did he?

Kenny should get an official ambassadorial role at LFC.....similar to Charlton at ManUtd.....

I just don't see what a DoF would bring. Rafa clearly has a vision for the club as a whole and the finances should be dealt with by specialists in those matters - football matters by the Rafa. If the relationship between Rafa and those in financial roles is bad or those negotiating deals are not doing it well we may need to look for new people in those positions but I can't see the point in a DoF. They wouldn't bring in extra funds and there is no evidence that they reduce transfer prices in any way - we could do with a financial director like Arsenal had in Dein who is knowledgable about football and seemingly good at his job but that is a very different prospect to getting in someone 'above Rafa' in the footballing hierarchy of the club.

It is likely to antagonise Rafa to have someone interfering. Maybe Rafa was too stretched last season but I think what we needed was an assistant - which we now have.
