Is this going to be "our year"?

Seriously, where do you all think we are going to finish this year? We finished 4th last year so obviously major investment is going to be needed to haul ourselves slowly up to the top. There appears to be no sign of this. From what I have seen of the new signings, they're similar to what we have got rid of - there's no obvious improvement from what I can see and no sign of any much needed wingers, wild rumours aside. Furthermore, we have once again added to the reserves/youths/"future" before thinking about the current XI/squad!!!!
With the likes of chelsea, man utd and possibly arsenal doing their annual improvements we need to be doing more than them to even give ourselves half a chance. But I don't see it happening. I'm not being negative but when i hear of players and fans coming out with statements that have no substance and are pure fantasy it really annoys me.

    4th again lads?

The transfer window only opened today and I'm willing to give us just a little more time before I start writing us off.

Good for you. Bear in mind though that Rafa said he'd have all his new players before the squad reported back for pre season training......

Are you saying two fullbacks was all he was gonna sign this summer?

Correct me if I'm wrong here but last season we only lost 4 league games all season?

Yes we drew far to many at home however if we cut out letting silly last minute goals then that could be the difference. Didn't Fergie state that they will only be signing one player this summer? Granted the Chavs will spend their usual bundle but I doubt Arsenal will.

The transfer window only opened today and the Euro's only finished on Sunday perhaps we should wait and see before we judge.

I was imagine it was more a statement of intent rather than fact.

Prob meant when all the players returned to pre season ie Torres, Pepe and the lads who were playing in the Euros

They return in 3 weeks dont they?

I really don't think we'll be starting the season with the current squad, so I'm not that bothered.

There are a few players that could make a telling difference to us and I'll wait to see if they're brought in. There's no point making predicitions at this stage of the year.

And how do we do that exactly?!? I'm pretty sure that we never plan to let in late goals! All players will have been told time and time again to concentrate until the final whistle. It's all too easy to say, "stop letting in late goals and we'll be champions".

And there's a big difference between Fergie signing one player and who we sign.......Utd are champions and don't NEED the massive improvements that we do.

But surely they will if their 40+ goals a season midfielder leaves?

Hasn't Rafa already made changes to stop that happening? We started the season well but then started having stupid draws then he bought Skrtel in and we were more solid at the back and finished the season well. He has also agreed deals for Deggan and Dossina and he's sold JAR which he clearly thought was a week link. Agger is also back and ready to play and Rafa has also brought in Pellegrino as his first team coach who was a massive influence in people like Carra, Sami and Finnan understanding the zonal marking system. Rafa also said earlier on in the week that this is an area that we need to improve on it is something that everyone at the club is aware of.

I think you should hold your horses a little with regards to transfers we couldn't officially sign anyone until yesterday anyway is it not better to wait a little until you start mouthing off?

I'm pretty sure I can safely predict we'll finish in the top four.

Can't see us winning the title though. Every year for years I believed the coming season would be the one for us. I've stopped believing this the past couple of years and I see no reason to start believing it again anytime soon.

                            Can we challenge? Yes.

Will we win it? Probably not.

its probably better to wait a while until we see what united, chelsea and arsenal do in transfer business before predicting where we will finish this season.

additionally its also worth noting who man city and tottenham buy this transfer window because they might shake things up a little.

However, if our total sum of transfer activity is barry, keane, degen and dossena then i dont think we'll finish first or even second because chelsea will go out and get scolari any player he wants, and even with those acquisitions we still wont be as strong as united were last season.
