# of crosses doesn't mean much. Assists are what matters.Originally posted by Michael View Post???? I'm going to go stat hunting!
18 Starts 7 Sub appearances and he got 2 goals and 7 assists. Not too shabby.
If we actually had a striker that could really attack his crosses, the type of striker that can make a bad cross into a good one, then his output would increase dramatically. The Crushing Machine MKII

I want Pennant to improve in the following areas:Originally posted by Michael View PostPennant is a good little player who in the right situation is a very useful asset.
He works hard and gets stuck in even though it isn’t in his makeup or stature to do so!
He only has good things to say about the club, is a good ambassador and accepts his position in the squad without complaint! He has been no trouble at all!
I also think he plays a lot better than people give him credit for and much criticism is unwarranted …… it is simply in Vogue to have a pop at him!
In fact if you watch him closely his general distribution is good and he is solid in possession!
Beating players on a regular basis
Getting down the flank on a regular basis
Cutting into the box on a regular basis
Cutting out the all to familiar negative passes
This all equates to being ****ing more offensive!!!

I don't know how genuine the above post is, and I can't professed to have read the whole thread either, but one thing I particularly take issue with is the part in bold. While I agree with you that it "isn't in his make-up", the last thing I would say about him is that he is a wholly committed player when on the pitch. The number of times he has pulled out of challenges, been scared of taking a man on for fear of getting tackled , made half-hearted challenges for the ball are immeasurable. The last full game I saw him play was at the Emirates v Arsenal in the league and not only was his distribution and set plays generally abysmal, he was also a petulant little brat.Originally posted by Michael View PostPennant is a good little player who in the right situation is a very useful asset.

Now don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the lad on a personal level, and while I was not particularly in favour of us signing him, I was also one of his defenders in his first season as I was, on the whole, impressed with him. But as far as I'm concerned, the stuff I mention above is inexcusable from a Liverpool player - there is simply no excusing a lack of wholehearted commitment.White liquid in a bottle = Milk

I think we need better players out wide but if the alternatives are milner/downing/milner then we should keep pennant. He is our best winger, doesnt complain about rotation and also works hard on the pitch.
He had a very good end to the season before last and a good start to last but then he got an injury and only really came back towards the end of the season when he played well when he started.
I prefer him to benayoun who only performs against **** teams bar one assist against chelsea (pennant was excellent against chelsea in the semi where agger scored) and think he should be kept as a squad player.

Benni has the game intelligence, vision and decison making that JP lacks.Originally posted by JermainePennant View PostI think we need better players out wide but if the alternatives are milner/downing/milner then we should keep pennant. He is our best winger, doesnt complain about rotation and also works hard on the pitch.

Wouldn't disagree with that.... however I still don't see him having the overall quality required. He's not a dreadful player, and the stats show that he is handy for the odd assist, but we do need better options out wide and currently I would always play Kuyt ahead of him anyway, so if we get another genuine winger in he would drop even further down the pecking order.Originally posted by Michael View PostI only picked out those things because they are elements of his game that people tend to pick on ...... to imply that he doesnt care or as a stereotype for a player that doesnt have 'heart' ...... but they are simply not correct ....I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

I think the longer we give him the better he will get. He's the kind of player who needs stability in my opinion. If he's happy being a squad player and doesn't cost too much then leave him be I would say. I reckon he'll mature into a decent player. A little late maybe, but I'm sure there's a blinding season or two in him.Really?
