I'm from outside of Cork as well so that isn't clouding my judgement and he did play for our biggest rivals so it would be far easier for me to slag him off rather than stand up for him. I just believe that the manager was at fault and should not have called that infamous meeting, i'm not naive enough to think Keane was faultless but i believe the majority of the blame for what happened lies with McCarthy.

At th risk of re-starting the civil war that's bull****. McCarthy should have managed the situation properly and who knows where we could have got to in that tournament. Roy Keane was the only reason we reached the finals. Mccarthy was such an inept manager he didn't know Spain had only 10 men in extra time of the second round game!!

its a real scandal on his part when you think about it. he essentially told all those hoping and praying the country would perform well to fook off and that he's too good for ireland. too good to knuckle down and give his all for his country. its as simple as that.

There is no doubt Keane undermined the whole squad when in fact FAI's unproffesionalism could have bonded the squad together. But no Keane had to belittle McCarthy in front of everyone, which in my book makes him a grade A cunt
