exactly - thats why i think this thread is just an arguement for arguing sakes. It's a decent thread, it's caused some good debate - but the second it started you just knew who would be pro rafa and who would be Anti Rafa (i guess that makes me uncle rafa - oh dear!! taxi)

Now if we limped into 4th, 20+ points of the top three, struggled in the comps and showed no signs off improvement - then obv questions have to be asked! but does that automatically mean Rafa should be sacked.......no not really because noone has any idea what might happen

ie - say if half our squad go struck down with something virus that ruled them out for 6 months, rafa was forced to play on with the ressies and we scraped into the top 6!! - should rafa be sacked for not mounting a serious challenge despite not having say - reina, carragher, agger, skirtle, mascher, gerrard, babel, keane and torres for 6 months!

I was supporting the Reds when they were in the old Second Division, with Shankly in charge, and then right through our "glory years", so I've experienced all the highs and lows of the last 40 odd years (far far more highs!). Shankly built a dynasty that withstood the test of time and only faltered because the continuity of the old "Bootroom ethos" ended with Fagan/Evans/Dalglish/Hillsborough (take your pick). Modern football and everything that goes with it, such as Bosman transfers, massive wages, lucrative sponsorships, billionaire owners,foreign players (mercenaries, if you like!), super professional training regimes, chess-like tactics etc is a different world from the 60s,70s and early 80s.
Benitez, in my humble opinion, is our BEST bet to rekindle anything like Shanks intended the club to be. He achieved wonders at Valencia in the face of Barca and Real who had much greater resources than he had, and he is well on the way to doing something similar at Anfield in a far more competitive league. He's a great tactician which is a "must" for a modern manager/coach, but most importantly he is a "lucky" manager! He's brought some great young talent to the club, has probably the best scouting network in the world and has assembled a squad of first team players that WILL challenge for, and probably win the Premiership this year. He MUST be given the chance and TIME to achieve our goal - 4 years is nothing in the greater scheme of things!
I couldn't stand to ever see Man Utd beat our total of titles, and hopefully it will never happen in my lifetime!

Football is all about opinions and it pisses me off that some people are already writing us off this season without us having kicked a ball in anger. The transfer window isn't even shut yet people aren't happy with the players we've bought.

Rafa does make mistakes just like anyone else and I sometimes think that people don't realise just what a **** state we were in when Ged left. Not only was our first team cack so was our youth and reserve teams. Ged god bless him was a cheque book manager and Rafa has had to over haul everything. It's getting to a stage now where he needs to add one or two class players a season to our already good squad instead of having to buy 5 or 6.

Keane is a great step in the right direction and I honestly think if we can get Barry and maybe a world class winger we are in business. I would give Rafa at least another season after this before we even consider changing our manager.

Rafa has improved the squad with all the money he has available, he has bought a top class striker, he is trying to win the ****in lot , why are you knocking him already ?

Sit back and enjoy your football, watch Rafa win the ****in lot and if he fails then, and only then should you start talking about wanting him out.
