Exactly, I'm neither here or there on the subject, just that gerbin seemed to be saying "point proven, good night vienna, nothing to see here now, move on" and I think it proved nothing at all.
"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."
I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

I think it's wrong to say the big teams don't take the FA Cup as seriously, before last season the last time a team outside of Us, Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea won the FA Cup was Everton in 1995, statistically speaking even with everyone trying it had to happen once after that runThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I'd have kept the following IN HINDSIGHT - the reason is not that I think any of these are good enough but their replacements have been no better.Originally posted by gerbin11 View PostRashid I have asked you this once and you seem to have chosen to ignore it. You keep saying we should have kept some of the Houllier signings. Again I ask you, which ones?
All of these could have been squad players while we bought in top quality signings - and then these could have been replaced later on.
Danny Murphy
Stephane Henchoz
Alou Diarra
Milan Baros
Dietmar Hamann
Chris Kirkland
Stephen Warnock
Djibril Cisse
Florent Sinama-Pongolle
Steve Finnan
The problem is though, this list is small because most of his sales have been ones he has bought and then had to sell as they were not good enough.
All of the above could have been reserves and squad players, instead we sold them and bought in players not much better and then sold them on too!

The big four normally win it because we have better squads, but you only have to look at some of the players that are rested in the earlier stages to know that its not a priority by any stretch of imagination.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI think it's wrong to say the big teams don't take the FA Cup as seriously, before last season the last time a team outside of Us, Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea won the FA Cup was Everton in 1995, statistically speaking even with everyone trying it had to happen once after that run

I agree that that's the case, all the top sides rest players buts still put out a side they believe are capable of winning the tie, but they have been doing this for 5 (or probably more years) and have still been capable of winning the cup on previous occasions, the attitude to the FA Cup may be different from what it was 10 or more years ago but I don't think the attitude has changed in the last 5 or mor yearsOriginally posted by FatTony View PostThe big four normally win it because we have better squads, but you only have to look at some of the players that are rested in the earlier stages to know that its not a priority by any stretch of imagination. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Trial and error, the only way to move forward is to exchange the lesser quality players with players you hope will be better.Originally posted by Rashid View PostI'd have kept the following IN HINDSIGHT - the reason is not that I think any of these are good enough but their replacements have been no better.

Danny MurphyBabel is a huge upgrade
Stephane HenchozWas going downhill, failed completely at Celtic.
Alou Diarra Terrible player
Milan Baros Headless chicken,Done nothing since leaving us.
Dietmar Hamann Mascher is much better.
Chris Kirkland Continually injured.
Stephen Warnock Mid table player at best.
Djibril Cisse Another headless chicken, needs to learn the offside rule.
Florent Sinama-PongolleAgreed,we should have kept him.
Steve FinnanKnackered

Reira replaces Riise this yr,only time will tell if he`s better but it was obvious Riise had to be replaced.Problem is we could only spend 6/7 million to replace Riise.

Or Aurelio,Riise played left back and left mid.The point still stands. We can`t afford to replace the dross with 20+ million pound players every season. When we have spent 20 mill we bought well.(Keane can be judged after one season).Originally posted by FatTony View PostI thought Dossena was Riise's replacementLast edited by Johnny; 07-09-08, 03:43 PM.

Johnny that was a poor post mate IMO.Originally posted by Johnny View PostTrial and error, the only way to move forward is to exchange the lesser quality players with players you hope will be better.

Danny Murphy - how has Babel replaced Murphy? Babel only came last year, I think Nunez, Benayoun and Kuyt played more in the Murphy role.
Henchoz - Failure or not, Pelligrino was shocking.
Alou Diarra - Currently in the French national squad and could have covered in midfield and in defence.
Milan Baros - Has done better for us than Morientes and Kuyt have done in attack.
Hamann - Masch only came last season, he could have stayed as a squad player.
Warnock - Mid table? What then of Degen etc? Dossenns currently doesn't look much better than Warnock - besided he is another who could have stayed on as a squad player.
Cisse - Tell me what has Kuyt/Bellamy/Morientes done on the wing and in attack that Cisse can't.
Finnan - He would still be our best right back if he stayed.
As I said quite clearly, it is not that this lot are good enough for the first team, it's that they could have saved us money by staying as squad players. Instead we went and spent MORE on players not much better if at all.
