Robbie Keane is latest Liverpool footballer hit by thieves

Premiership footballer Robbie Keane has become the latest Liverpool player to be targeted by thieves, sources said.

The Ireland striker's penthouse apartment was broken into while he was away on international duty for the country's 2-1 win over Georgia on Saturday.

The burglars sneaked into the flat he shares with model wife Claudine, 25, and are believed to have stolen an expensive watch and jewellery.

Keane, 28, had been using the city centre property in Liverpool while he searched for a home after his £20 million move from Tottenham FC to Merseyside.

Over the past two years six Anfield stars have been burgled while playing.

Club captain and England midfielder Steven Gerrard, 28, was given extra security after raiders broke into his Formby home last December.

Gerrard was away playing a Champions League match in Marseilles when four men broke in and confronted his wife, Alex Curran.

Former Red Peter Crouch was busy scoring twice at Anfield in 2006 while burglars were rifling through his property in Cheshire.

And when Polish goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek was playing with his national side in June 2006, his plush home in Caldy, West Kirby, was targeted

with all the money around at the moment i am sure it would cost the club much to hire/create a security firm who would watch the players houses whilst they are away
        in january we were doomed.

in august we will rise from the ashes of ****e and march on again

Why should the club have this issue? I think it's more than fair that the footballers can afford their own security.

thing is, one thing for the players in their homes, but this was in a penthouse suite, possibly hired out by the club for Keane therefore some sort of security should have been in place. I can not just accpet a bunch of guys just rolled up, got into the lift, walked into his place and lifted his **** and then walked out again.

Aye, the club could organise something with a firm- doesnt mean the club has to pay for it, but the players have the option to have the security payments taken off their wages (not in a Sopranos sense!).

At this rate, players will be put off signing for us.
                              3rd place. Worst champions ever.
