Kuyt is such an odd player - almost designed to start debates.

He very obviously isn't a great header of the ball in the mould of Shearer or Nial Quinn but he does compete for everything and win a lot of knockdowns etc and shows good awareness of others when doing it (he did this very well in the United game).

Fair enough, a better player might have scored, or if he miss-hit it like Babel it might have, but I wouldn’t class it as a sitter.

Babel miss hit his shot because somehow Dirk managed to make the ball bounce it's way to him when all he had to do was roll it.

He is a valuble player but he's limited.

If Babel becomes the player he sometimes looks capable of doing then there is no place for Kuyt in the first team.

Why, do you think he's done something to prompt a change of opinion? He's rubbish in the air.

****ing hell, we're blaming Kuyt for the ball bobbling now?? Nothing to do with the turf getting trodden up, or a divot from the keeper...**** me, there are some clueless feckwits out there...

If the ball had bobbled, Babel would have skied it...instead, he drove it into the ground and it ballooned up over them...Babel mi**** his shot, and it went in...if he'd middle it, he'd probably have hit one of the two players on the line, instead of looping it over their heads.

Hard to argue with that if Babel becomes the new Henry, Keane starts to play like we all know he can and Torres and Gerrard stay on form then he will find it hard. Mind you I would still put a bet on he will still start against all the harder teams.

should have scored both times. i'm just glad it didn't cost us else this thread would have taken a very different tone.

Yes in my opinion the ball bobbles due to his technique, i think he hits the pass too hard and into the ground. You call me a clueless feckwit for noticing it, I think I'm observant and know a bad pass when i see one. Look at it again, he doesn't play a flat pass.

I don't want to get into a Dirk slag fest, as you can see from my earlier post I like him. You called me a clueless feckwit though and er..that's not very nice now is it.

Should definitely have scored the second chance, but shot far to close to the keeper...needed to lift it as VDS had committed himself early. But the first one he git right, hit the target...from that range and angle with at least 3 players between him and the goal, an instant snap shot that he could only hit it goalwards and hope for it to find a gap, or get a lucky ricochet...

Still, at least he connects with the ball...and Torres has missed a few sitters too in his time...the Newcastle game last year springs to mind straight away.

He's missed soooooooooo many scoring chances with his head. I remember one particularly lame one at Old Trafford the season before last.

He is okay with the bits and pieces and putting a challenge in, but that doesn't make him a good header of the ball. I'm talking about a centre-forward using his head in goalscoring positions. In that sense he's woeful in the air.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

kuyts second should have gone in - when he should have gone far post at the kop. his first was a good save at full stretch from VDS. he put it to the side of the 2 defenders on the post, only that VDS got there in time. cannot fault him for that i dont think. roof of net for sure but hindsight is perfect isnt it.

kuyt is worth the first team squad of any team in our league. sure he'd be benched for man u and chelsea, the rest he'd be close to the first team.

one thing tho, why arent we making him work on his finishing until he's lethal? even if he is out wide, if he's ever a 'possibility' for a central striker role, the lad needs to improve his finishing.

I know in Holland the opposition was far less quality, but that has no bearing on him not scoring some of the chances he's had for us, in Holland he was slotting chances like those on Sat, ok keepers are better here, but some chances he should beat the keeper every time, but for whatever reason he doesn't, but in the same situation in Holland he'd have hit the back of the net.....WHY??????????? Is it just a mad run of bad luck???

In holland he'd have put the ball up into the roof of the net and scored, giving the keeper no chance, but here he hits it to the one place Van der Sar can save it as he's already fallen to the deck, strange, he's hit the woodwork more times than a woodpecker for us too, Kuyt stands before us with a shoddy goal count, but it could so so easily have been very different.

Cant help but admire his spirit though. Well done Dirk.

I prefer to think he deliberately hit that into the ground because it did bobble before getting there and it was great technique
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

The thread would indeed have a different tone.It would be 5 times bigger and would have a bunch of loopers blaming Rafa. The post match thread would have had you,Sarb and Radish proclaiming that it`s time to sack Rafa.

Youse have been strangely quiet this week.
