i'd take the 12 million without blinking. we now look even more lethal going up the pitch with the inclusion of a proper winger like riera...its less congested going down the middle with teams stretching to defend against us. what would that do for us if we had a proper right winger....gerrard torres and keane for that matter would be having a field day.And as for kuyt and his workrate ..theres obviously is no denying that...but if thats his main contribution would it be fair to say i could stick mascherano out at right wing and get the same workrate....my point is workrate isnt everything especially when operating in an offensive role...i hear no one talking about riera's workrate and i'm sure a lot of us are pleased with what he has been offering us. take the money and run i say.

Kuyt has improved leaps and bounds on what he brings to the team since about April this year BUT £12m is a lot of cash and I'd be confident that Rafa could use that money to buy a more talented player for the right wing. Sure we'd miss his tireless effort, knack of scoring in Europe, and never say die attitude, I just think we need a better footballer there.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

Now, now, let's not be hasty. Yes, dww is one of the best posters on here, a man of undoubted reason and sensibility, but let's not forget that he also said that dispensing with Alonso and replacing him with Barry would have been the right move. Now in my book that kind of treachery deserves nothing less than a...Originally posted by PoolG View Post

He's a big game player, which should tell you everything about the man's character. His poor form last year was probably down to his dad dying, yet I never once heard him using it as an excuse.
Is it that **** Shankslegend on RAWK who criticised Dirk for supposedly going out of his way to try to court favour with the fans through the press to mask his playing deficiencies and poor performances? What a ****.White liquid in a bottle = Milk

my mind isnt changed because simply, kuyt is worth a starting place given our current squad. i think he has only played to his best for us a handful of times (literally) since he signed. but i know he's had a heck of a lot to deal with in that time so am prepared to give this top bloke a bit of slack.
however i never expect him to be a torres or a gerrard which is what it'd take for me to totally change my mind (in the positive sense).
but he's a red, is a top player, puts in very good performances (7/10) week in week out and you need players like that and i will give the guy my backing and support whilst he's with us.

In 1999-00, most of our rival's fans, and many of our own, were saying this sort of thing about one James Lee Duncan Carragher.Originally posted by pablo1981 View Post
He wouldn't get into any of our competitors sides ...
It's early days yet, but those fans were also questioning our purchase of Reira.
Ray Kennedy - told by Port Vale manager Stanley Matthews as a 16 year old that he wasn't going to make it as a professional footballer. Played as a striker at Arsenal, and signed by Shanks as such, but Paisley turned him into an attacking midfielder, and he went from strength to strength.
I'm glad that this sort of criteria (what our rivals would do) is not what Liverpool manager's worry about

Before you finish trying to spell 'sell' I would have got rid of him.Originally posted by looprevil
If you asked me in the Summer if I would sell Kuyt I would have said yes, definitely. For 10m I would have bitten your hand off.
Now, I find my mind has completely changed and I see him as an invaluable asset to this team. His attitude and application epitomises everything our players should aspire to when they wear that red shirt.
So, my questions are fairly simple and I would be fascinated by the response.

He has worked his bollocks off and always gets slated by some no matter what he does.
This kind of thread makes me laugh. He's been a donkey for well over a year and we could achieved so much more had he not been in the team. All of a sudden he has half a dozen decent (not amazing) games and everyone think's he's priceless!!!

Can you please quantify your comment of how we could have "achieved so much more had he not been in the team"? I'd be particularly interested in your thoughts as to how we would have progressed in the CL without him.
