    Im confused with our fans...

I dont post a lot but as excited as I am, heres what I dont understand:

Weve been waiting for so many years to be in a position to make a real challenge. Weve become frustrated because we arent in the mix...

We are finally in a position where we are making a challenge...can anyone disagree with that?

Now that we are there after how many years of frustration...we constantly are questioned that its not sustainable, we are lucky - we dont have the depth, we dont play jism pass and move or we dont route teams by 4 goals a time. You know what - they are all to some extent reasonable discussion points...

however - im sick of the killjoys always saying we are lucky or **** or both and im about done with it.

We are top of the league - how many of you would have sold yourself at this point of August to be where we are? but many (not all) keep saying its not sustainable or we arent good enough or we dont play like Arsenal who happen to be significantly behind us and score a ****load but cant defend to save their lives or we are lucky or however many more reasons you could come up with and they are all reasonable.

No disprespect to anyone as we all care as much as each other but for FS enjoy it!!! we are finally in a position that weve never had in years. We have some of the best players in the world in Gerrard, Torres, Mascherano and a few others that might scrape in but its still glass half empty for many of you and im frankly (ryhmes with Shankly ) a little tired of the negativity.

We arent ever going to romp the league. We arent ever going to be 12 points ahead and comfortable - we are always going to be playing game by game to make it and we will always lose points in games - sometimes when we think its ok to do so, sometimes when we think not. We arent ever going to play like Arsenal and still hold onto clean sheets (**** they cant even do that and let in 2 with 2 minutes to go) we arent ever going to be perfect and we arent ever going to have a cushion like we had in the 70s or 80s - its a different time now.

But (and this is my main point/frustration) - how can anyone be negative right now given what weve achieved this year - yes its early days but yes we are top of the fin league and have beaten 2 teams that repeatedly beat us. Can we not get behind our team (team includes squad players), be positive when reasonable and all push to get the title we've all been waiting for.

I do think that there are a few too many naysayers that will never be happy unless we are clear by many points, beating teams 4-0 with games in hand. I was fortunate to grow up in that environment and although it was great im not sure if its realistic to expect that in the modern day.

Lets support our squad (pennant, Lucas etc and all), lets realize that we are going to drop points somewhere - whether that be to **** teams like Stoke or average teams like blackburn/Pompey (we could easily have tied) then wtf so long as we stay top.

All I want to say is how easy it is to be negative - how easy it is to be a naysayer, how easy it is to say our squad is ****. Squad meaning they play on a few occasions to rest the best players to do a neccessary job - and what a great job that is financially but welcome to Sky football as they cant compete week in week out at the best level and they arent up for it many times yet the glass is half full on too many occasions.

Squad player means you only play them against average teams (injuries aside) and thats why they are squad players. Id sooner play a poor Pennant and Lucas and rest my Gerrards and Kuyts (workaholic dude of the highest grafting order whether he has 2 left feet or not) and scrape my three points to benefit the quality players rest time. Squad means squad - dont judge thse people by world class players. Yes you could argue that we overpaid for squad players (Pennant is a perfect example) but id sooner overpay for average than overpay for **** (many many players including but not limitied to Diouf, Diou, Cheyrou, Cisse, midget gems etc) your glass is again half empty if you dont think theres going to be some average squaddies that dont make it to be first teamers. Name me a team thats had a 100% record othersiwse and ill gladly rescind my point. Sometimes you overpay and get average, sometimes you pay very little, find a kid that grows into average or better but id guesss that many many more fall by the wayside than those that do make it through from such a young age.

Of course - if we play squad players and lose or dont win, its knives out because weve played guys with potential that should play like world beaters because they should either be hungry or because they have potential or because they are paid a ****load and should make it but theres always going to be players that dont quite cut it - we are no exception.

When weve experimented and it hasnt worked out it tends to be knives out for Rafa but you know - either back him or back off because you aint getting anything better with what weve got to offer financially and if you disagree ill respect your opinion but only if you can come up with another manager who could accomplish so much with so little as Rafa has. We are fortuntate that hes stayed around IMO. There are few if any managers that could have achieved so much with what he has in terms of finances over the years so we should count our blessings. **** - look at the Spurs guy that won the UEFA twice in Spain the fell flat on his arse with them - there arent many top class managers out there and weve got one (if not the) best in the world.

With regard to trying other players out, im just reading Carraghers book and he raises a few interesting points in that it basically took him a whole year or so to come good. Do we have that patience now with anyone?

Ill conclude by saying that im having the best time and most hope watching us since I was watching Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge and co when I was a nipper and you know what - its not always edge of the seat stuff we play now - I agree with that but we are in the seat right now and thats all that matters.

Enjoy what you have while you have it - we have a real chance this year and even if we dont win it we'll come close. When was the last time we were in this position. Stop the negativity and enjoy it while you have it. God forbid, if Rafa ever leaves we are ****ed and at best there will be a season or two of 'transition' until the new manager buys/picks his own team. That likely means no PL chance for several years. Everything gets reset back to 1993.

Stop whinging, stop complaining, ideas and positive thoughts on different ideas are great and are things that make forums like this interesting places to visit but shut the **** up on the negativity because we are top of the league and deserve it and have the potential to maintain it - when was the last time you really believed that?

Speaking for myself I'll admit I am being cautious but not really negative.

As I've posted on the subject before lady luck is a fickle mistress and I don't wanna tempt her to give us a good kicking.

Take it one game at a time, enjoy the football, enjoy being top, have appreciation for what the lads are doing at the moment, but don't take it as anything long term just yet.

Thankfully I don't know any reds who are putting a downer on our start. Just like I am, most are cautiously optimistic. I'm just enjoying setting the pace for once, long may it continue.

            Great post stuartb

I agree with the statement in the post, and I think most people get tired when some people are filled with constant negativity.

But this season they seem to be a hidding a bit more, not constantly making new threads etc. They have dissapeared because even thery now that it is very hard to complain about anything at the moment, and that makes it hard posting if you have nothing good to say!

But I am sure they will pop back up come spring if we (god or whoever forbid) should find ourselves out of the title race.

We are nr. 1, we are playing well, we have great team spirit, a great manager = me being ****ing ecstatic (trying not to get carried away )

Great post stuartb. I agree, i seem to come across more and more naive fans within our ranks who think that until we are arsenal they wont be happy

I love Rafa's team and everything that he is building and i hope he is here for years to come. We are progressing fast

We will when Torres comes back. We are passing it around much better lately and Torres will benefit as will we.

Great ****ing post though mate, I 100% agree with what you are saying.

**** THE REST, WERE THE BEST

We need some negativity to ensure there is balance to the force.

now now fredo stop using words like rammed anywhere near any part of my anatomy i'll report u for sexual harassment

pleased with the post and the lads enthusiasm but the reservations are that most of our weaknesses from last year are still there. we've outfought and outworked most teams this season but there was plenty of times when we've been lucky. this is nothing to get negative about but simply something to recognise.

Face it Fredo, not all of us have our head stuck up Rafa's arse like you do. Some of us rightly questioned whether we could win the title with signings such as Barry and the tactics/decisions he deployed in previous seasons. We didn't get Barry, he's starting most games with his best 11 and he's attacking the likes of Man U and Chelsea and bought a left winger (because he missed out on Barry). So he's kind of addressing the main criticisms we had of him

Don't see what's wrong with that. And as far as I am aware none of us have done a sudden turn and are now saying he's the best manager in the world and kissing his arse because we're top of the league.

At least we aren't scrambling for excuses like you do. 'Oh the Xabi incident gave him the kick up the backside he needed....so Rafa was right'. One typical excuses used by you

the bit in bold sarb - i never thought you would say it. fair play

"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

                              great first post....

personally, i actually dont even think we should be looking at the league table until feb..... that is when we will have a real idea of how we can do this season...

until then, i reckon we should just take each game as it comes. However, winning is a great habit to get into and although there have been some great performances all season, i think everybody knows that we really haven't hit top gear just yet...... which is a great omen.....
